Chinese alkaline electrolyser options may prove decisive for Atome’s 145MW green fertiliser project in Paraguay, not just for their low cost but for their proven operational track record at industrial scale, according to the firm’s CEO.

Olivier Mussat told H2 View the Villeta project is not shaped by EU politics or subsidies, meaning Atome can conduct full due diligence on global manufacturers and use its shareholder Hy24’s experience to benchmark performance.

And from those assessments, Mussat said Chinese electrolysers stand out for one key reason: scale. “The only electrolysers in operation above 100MW are Chinese, and in China,” he said.
