The multidisciplinary collaboration has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and targeting a value chain for the Northern Xplorer’s first zero-emission cruise ship.

The cruise ship will feature fuel cells and electric propulsion, as well as making pollution-free hydrogen available to the wider maritime market.

The partners consist of Northern Xplorer AS, hydrogen provider Norwegian Hydrogen AS, high-capacity hydrogen transfer system supplier Hyon AS, ship designers Multi Maritime AS and hydrogen storage system provider Hexagon Purus Maritime AS.

Northern Xplorer has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Portuguese shipbuilder West Sea for the construction of its maiden vessel with delivery slated for the start of the 2025/26 cruise season.

Jens Berge, Norwegian Hydrogen CEO, said, “We are very pleased we have been selected to assist in developing the necessary infrastructure for these ships to run on zero-emission hydrogen when they come into operation.”

JØrn Kristian Lindtvedt, Hyon CEO, added, “Together we cover the full value chain, making this an important milestone in establishing hydrogen infrastructure for the maritime sector.”

Mikael Johansen, Multi Maritime CEO, said, “We have been working for three years to create an eye-catching design that will incorporate the latest propulsion technology and vessel systems.”

Norwegian Hydrogen recently signed an MoU with Provaris to collaborate on green hydrogen chain projects in the Nordics.

The collaboration will accelerate the development of hydrogen export supply chains, utilising Provaris’ GH2 carriers and storage solutions with Norwegian Hydrogen’s proposed production and export sites.

A Successful Ecosystem for Green Hydrogen – London

It is becoming ever clearer that the entire green hydrogen ecosystem requires alignment. Hydrogen’s potential, performance, and safety are proven. Green hydrogen is widely accepted as a core pathway to Net Zero, yet the key levers in the transition are not yet in-sync.

At H2 View we recognise the increasingly challenging economic climate that various countries/economies are currently facing. We want to help as many companies as possible in the hydrogen space to achieve their needs as competitively and logically as possible. As a result, we felt it was a compelling decision to relocate our previously planned event in Iceland, to a venue in London.

Join H2 View in London, one of the foremost investment capitals of the world, for a 1.5-day event devoted to thought leadership, insights, and actionable takeaways in the green hydrogen ecosystem, combined with the connections and networking to deliver against those objectives.

This H2 View hydrogen summit is dedicated to dissecting the ecosystem requirements to truly realise a green hydrogen-fuelled future across industries, transport, and society. This event will tackle all sides of the energy ecosystem, from wind and solar power requirements to additionality, water sustainability, electrolyser technologies, and investment and policy climate.
