HYLA will encompass the company’s energy products for producing, distributing and dispensing hydrogen to fuel its fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

The mobile fueller cools and compresses hydrogen to rapidly fill 700 bar FCEV heavy trucks and is coupled with a hydrogen tube trailer with a capacity of 960kg, allowing HYLA to refuel customers back-to-back.

The first fueller has completed commissioning and testing and been released for market operation, with additional HYLA’s being commissioned this year.

Michael Lohscheller, Nikola CEO and President, said, “Nikola is the only company that is successfully integrating a revolutionary new product and the full hydrogen energy infrastructure supply chain under one roof.”

Carey Mendes, Nikola Energy President, added, “Hydrogen is the catalyst for the HYLA brand and serves as a forward-looking solution for our customers to help them achieve their sustainability goals and reduce the overall carbon emissions in the transportation sector.”

Under the HYLA brand, Nikola is developing access of up to 300MT per day of hydrogen, which is expected to be supported by previously announced projects that are being developed with Nikola partners.

These include the recent agreement with Plug Power set to supply Nikola with up to 125MT per day of green hydrogen per day and planned Phoenix Hydrogen Hub Project.

Nikola’s intention is to have 60 hydrogen stations in place by 2026. Last year it unveiled l the locations of three hydrogen dispensing stations in California, US, to support growing demand for hydrogen-powered vehicles.

The refuelling stations and logistics infrastructure will be located in Colton, Ontario and near the Port of Long Beach, Los Angeles.
