The €5m ($5.4m) order will support Samsung’s first off-grid green hydrogen production project, set to be located in South Korea.

The Nel ASA subsidiary will deliver the technology after it is produced at the company’s Herøya facility in Norway, expected to be the world’s first fully automated electrolyser production line.

Samsung C&T is focusing on global engineering, procurement, and construction, and has previously signed several green hydrogen agreements as it aims to strengthen its energy transition business portfolio.

The company’s Head of Energy Solution Business Unit, Byung Soo Lee, said, “The key to building our energy transition business portfolio is to secure reliable water electrolysis facilities.

“Samsung C&T hope that the two companies will be able to maintain close relations and continue cooperating in various overseas green hydrogen production projects.”

Håkon Volldal, Nel’s CEO, added, “Samsung C&T is dedicated to learning and developing within the green hydrogen industry, and we look forward to a productive and fruitful collaboration with the company.”

Nel’s Chief Technology Officer, Marius Løken, spoke to H2 View last year (2023) and claimed Nel “will be amongst the winners” in the hydrogen industry, and have a “significantly bigger impact on the society.”
