MorGen selects 20MW ITM electrolyser for HAR1-backed South Wales hydrogen project

The UK electrolyser firm inked a supply agreement and a binding long-term services head of terms with the Swiss-headquartered project developer for a 20MW standardised skid-mounted Poseidon electrolyser unit.

It will be installed at MorGen’s West Wales Hydrogen Project, on the former Milford Haven refinery site, to supply green hydrogen to nearby industrial clusters, as well as some mobility projects.

The project is among the 10 developments to have signed funding agreements with the UK government for revenue support under its first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1).

Through HAR1, the project will receive a strike price of around £241/MWh (over £9/kg of hydrogen) and capex funding via the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund.

While the development is still subject to final investment decision, MorGen intends to break ground before the end of 2025, having secured permits and nearly finalised commercial terms.

MorGen CEO Werner Lieberherr said the selection of ITM’s technology would help the firm deliver the project, which he stressed would support jobs and strengthen supply chains.

“We are committed to ensuring this partnership delivers both environmental impact and lasting prosperity for the communities we serve.”

It comes as the latest confirmed deal for ITM, after announcing agreements to supply EDF’s 8MW HAR1-backed project in Teesside, and Uniper’s 120MW HAR2-shortlisted Humber development.

CEO Dennis Schulz said the MorGen deal showed confidence in ITM’s technology, delivery capability, and green hydrogen more broadly.
