Mitsui signs MOU to explore investment in AM Green’s low-carbon aluminium project

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sits within AM Green’s wider green hydrogen and power-to-X strategy, where the Indian firm is developing large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects to decarbonise heavy industry.

AM Green is planning a one-million-tonnes-per-year primary aluminium shelter alongside two million-tonnes-per-year of alumina refining and mining capacity, to be developed in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Mitsui would use the partnership to secure and trade low-carbon aluminium supply, while positioning itself alongside AM Green’s broader hydrogen-led industrial decarbonisation platform.

Under the agreement, Mitsui will assess potential equity investment across AM Green’s aluminium value chain, as well as offtake rights and supply of auxiliary materials for the smelter and refinery.

“AM Green is building globally competitive platforms across molecules and materials to enable industrial decarbonisation at scale,” explained Mahesh Kolli, founder of Greenko Group and AM Green.

“We are pleased to partner with Mitsui to explore collaboration pathways that can accelerate low-carbon aluminium and expand market access for a wider set of green products.”
