Situated in Lübeck at an existing MB Energy diesel refuelling station near the A1 and A20 motorways, the station could fuel 50 trucks per-day.
Delivered by German project developer Hypion, it comes as MB Energy’s third station in Europe.
The Lübeck site will operate as part of the Tankpool24 truck refuelling network, comprised of over 2,000 stations – covering diesel, LNG, and hydrogen – across Europe including more than 750 in Germany.
MB Energy has not identified the exact source of hydrogen for the station.
The Lübeck station was supported by a €5.1m ($5.5m) grant awarded under the German Government’s Climate Friendly Commercial Vehicles and Infrastructure programme.
Florian Lückmann, Director Commercial Road Transport at MB Energy said that the station is “just the beginning.”
“With short refuelling times, long ranges, and no compromise on payload, hydrogen offers real-world benefits for commercial logistics and long-haul transport,” he added.
Germany has been doubling down on its hydrogen mobility efforts, with the recent government adoption of mandates for the fuel.
The country’s Federal Ministry of Transport recently launched a €220m ($260m) funding call for hydrogen truck deployments and up to 40 hydrogen station installations.
Hypion has previously delivered one other hydrogen refuelling station in Neumünster, north Germany.
