MB Energy acquires fourth European hydrogen refuelling station

Located near the A7 motorway within the Neumünster logistics hub, the station was inaugurated by hydrogen refuelling developer Hypion in November 2023 to support heavy-duty vehicle deployments.

According to Hypion, the station was the first of its size to comply with the EU’s Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates hydrogen refuelling stations every 200km along core roads and in every urban node by 2030.

While the acquisition’s value remains undisclosed, the station becomes MB Energy’s fourth operational hydrogen refuelling site.

It will be integrated into the Tankpool24 network, which includes over 2,000 stations – covering diesel, LNG, and hydrogen – across Europe.

The announcement comes just days after MB Energy launched another two-tonne refuelling station in Lübeck.

Florian Lückmann, Director Commercial Road Transport at MB Energy, said the Neumünster station was a “great addition” to the firm’s commercial fleet refuelling network.

Germany has been ramping up hydrogen mobility efforts, rolling out mandates for the fuel.

The country’s Federal Ministry of Transport recently launched a €220m ($260m) funding call for hydrogen truck deployments and up to 40 hydrogen station installations.
