The Linde-led joint venture with local partners, which operates as Taiwan’s largest industrial gas supplier, is pushing into hydrogen mobility and industrial applications in Taiwan.
As part of the truck launch at the Energy Taiwan Net Zero Sustainability Expo, Linde’s Global Director of Commercialisation, Dr. Joachim von Schéele, will present the company’s latest hydrogen technologies.
The vehicle is expected to serve as a live demonstration platform for the government agencies, operators, and industrial partners to evaluate hydrogen-powered transport.
“Compared to battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have clear advantages: fast refuelling, extended range, and higher payload capacity,” stated Christine Miao, Vice-President of Corporate Communications at Linde LienHwa.
She added that these characteristics make hydrogen better suited to long-haul and heavy-duty cycles.
From 29-31 October, the hydrogen-powered vehicle will be showcased at the event.
The expo follows transport-policy updates in Taiwan that raised subsidies for fuel-cell buses to as much as NT$20m ($650,000) per vehicle in September, though current support excludes trucks.
Beyond transport, Linde LienHwa is also promoting hydrogen-oxygen combustion solutions for high-temperature industries such as steel, glass, and cement.
Vice-President of Merchant and Clean Energy Jeffery Shan said the switch can cut emissions while boosting productivity and quality, with burner systems able to transition from oxy-fuel to partial and eventually 100% hydrogen.
Taiwan’s wider decarbonisation push sets the backdrop for the vehicle launch and industrial optimisation efforts.
H2 View understands that greenhouse gas emissions fell about 3% year-on-year in 2022 and are estimated to have dropped further in 2023 to around 257 million tonnes.
CO2 was reported to account for more than 95% of the total, mostly from the energy and industrial sectors.
