The New Delhi-based energy company will supply 85,000 tonnes of hydrogen-based ammonia per year to Coromandel International’s fertiliser plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
The ₹50.75/kg ($580/tonne) bid now sits at the very bottom of the price range, breaking the previous record low of ₹51.80/kg set by NTPC in the second auction.
The bid was part of India’s first green ammonia tender under the Sight scheme, Mode-2A, Tranche-I, where SECI is securing supply for 13 fertiliser plants across the country to help the energy transition.
The SECI stated that the combination of smart policy, reliable buyers, and transparent auction is creating a highly competitive market for green ammonia in India.
“This goes beyond shaving off rupees; it’s about proving Green Ammonia’s place on the world stage, both in excellence and affordability, and our Green Ammonia scheme is setting the pace,” the government agency said on LinkedIn.
The SECI added that following the successful domestic green ammonia auction, the country now feels confident to enter the export market.
“Building on this domestic offtake success, India is now ready to explore partnerships with other geographies from Japan and Korea to Germany and beyond wherever there’s a shared vision for a greener future,” it said.
Other winners in SECI’s Mode-2A auctions include ACME Cleantech (₹55.75/kg), NTPC Renewable Energy (₹51.8/kg), Oriana Power (₹52.25/kg), Onix Renewable (₹52.50/kg), and SCC Infrastructure (₹53.05/kg), all securing long-term supply contracts for fertiliser plants nationwide.
