Under the agreement, Hyzon’s fuel cell technology and Hylion’s electric powertrain solution will be combined in a prototype vehicle, built on a class 8 sleeper chassis.

The company says the prototype will be a ‘meaningful step’ in the transition of long-haul, heavy-duty trucking to zero-emissions.

The completion of the prototype vehicle is expected to be released early in Q4.

The collaboration also leverages the competitive advantages of each company to speed the development of a fuel cell Class 8 semi-truck, while eliminating duplicative costs and improving vehicle performance and reliability.

Last year, Hyzon  bought German manufacturer ORTEN Betriebs and its subsidiary ORTEN Electric Trucks.

The deal will allow Hyzon to offer comprehensive solutions for customers transitioning fleets to zero emissions vehicles, utilising both Hyzon’s and ORTEN’s product lines, combined with the ORTEN made body and powertrain kits.
