Hynion has selected PDC Machines to supply compressors for its new hydrogen filling stations which will create a reliable and scalable refuelling solution.
The stations are set to be built in Västerås and Jönköping in Sweden. Each station will deliver hydrogen at 35 and 70MPa and will service both light and heavy-duty vehicles.
The projects require dependable and robust compressors, as they represent a new generation of stations with the capacity to refuel dozens of trucks per day.
Ulf Hafseld, CEO of Hynion, said, “We see this partnership as the start of an ambitious, long-term collaboration. The stations must deliver around the clock, and reliable compressors are indeed critical in this respect”.
PDC CEO Kareem Afzal, and MD for the European region Richard Kennett, anticipate an important and longstanding collaboration with Hynion.
Afzal said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Hynion and to support its vision for developing a network of low-carbon hydrogen refueling stations in the Region of North Europe (REN). Our advanced hydrogen compression technology, coupled with Hynion’s unrivalled experience in compressed gases and dispensing, will help to establish a reliable and cost-effective hydrogen refuelling solution to scale.”
Two powerful compressors will be provided for each station, enabling continuous delivery of hydrogen fuel for trucks and fuel cell vehicles in transit. The aim is for stations to be operational by the final quarter of 2023.
The Swedish Energy Agency is providing SEK61.4m ($5.8m) as a grant to Hynion for the stations, which will have a capacity of 1,500kg of hydrogen per day and be built to facilitate the hydrogen-fuelled trucks that will now be phased in.
Slavica Djuric, CEO of Hynion Sweden, said, “This is an important step forward for hydrogen for the transport sector. We now see clear actions from the Swedish authorities that they are serious about introducing hydrogen for heavy transport, which makes us very optimistic about the development.”
Just days after revealing its plans for its Danish hydrogen hub, Everfuel announced yesterday (August 26) that it has signed an agreement with Swedish-based Karlstads Energi to collaborate on the development of a hydrogen hub in Sweden.

Another partnership seeks to integrate a hydrogen refuelling station at Stockholm Norvik Port, Sweden, with the goal of making it the country’s most ‘climate-smart and sustainable’ port.
Ports of Stockholm and CMB.TECH seek to establish a major hydrogen collaboration at Stockholm Norvik Port, with an investment allowing the companies to offer customers and collaboration partners the ability to convert to hydrogen, by building a hydrogen refuelling station adjacent to the port.
