Destined for operators, AVM Venezia and ACTV SPA Venezia, the 12-metre hydrogen fuel cell electric buses are expected to arrive in the Italian city by mid-2023.

H2 View understands, the buses are planned to provide public transport services in Venice, as well as communes within Venice and Chioggia.

The announcement from Solaris comes months after the ‘first’ hydrogen refuelling station in Mestre, Venice was opened by Eni, offering two dispensing points which could serve vehicles including buses up to 100kg of hydrogen per day.

Solaris currently has Urbino 12 hydrogen buses on the streets of Bolzano, Italy, Cologne and Wuppertal, Germany, the province of South Holland, the Netherlands, and Konin in Poland, with further buses soon to be deployed in Upper Bavaria, Palma de Mallorca, Vienna, Bratislava, Lublin, and Poznań.
