The Steel from Solar Energy study is aiming to showcase the conditions under which steel can be produced economically from iron ore using hydrogen.

Identified in the study are crucial areas that are holding back the wider adoption of green steel.

Included here is cost, scale, and the necessity to provide constant streams of hydrogen to the reduction shaft.

These obstacles must be overcome in order to integrate green steel produced from hydrogen further into the heart of the European market and both decarbonise and gain independence from other nations.
