The certification from CertifHy confirmed the plant in Bavaria produces green hydrogen with 99.9% fewer carbon dioxide emissions than fossil fuels, in line with EU regulations.
Hy2B said the electrolyser features smart energy management developed with BayWa r.e., enabling hydrogen production during times of surplus renewable electricity while also acting as a controllable grid load to support stability.
It came ahead of the final scale-up of the Pfeffenhausen facility, which is expected to produce between 400 and 500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year from early 2026.
Hy2B said the certification would allow it to supply hydrogen to industrial customers that could be credited towards mandated greenhouse gas reduction quotas under the Renewable Energy Directive.
From 2027, the company aims to further expand the site to 10MW and produce up to 1,000 tonnes of hydrogen that will be supplied to hydrogen refuelling stations in the Munich region.
German hydrogen station operator H2 Mobility announced plans to purchase hydrogen from the Pfeffenhausen site.
