Under the agreement, the two companies will focus on streamlining mobility applications, specifically hydrogen refuelling stations.
The aim is to combine expertise to deliver complete refuelling stations solutions with a modularisation concept bringing cost and lead-time efficiencies for their customers in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
Ross B. Shuster, CEO at Howden, said, “Howden and Hydrexia recognise the importance of lead-times, system efficiencies and costs in the deployment of hydrogen refuelling stations.
“This cooperation agreement will bring together Howden’s leading hydrogen compression solutions, global expertise and service footprint with Hydrexia’s capabilities in the design, construction and operation of hydrogen refuelling stations.”
Howden’s hydrogen solution portfolio includes leading compression technologies, whilst Hydrexia has collectively delivered 58 hydrogen refuelling station projects in China and Southeast Asia since 2016.
Daniel Zafir, CEO at Hydrexia Australia, said, “We are excited to incorporate tailored Howden compression systems into standardised hydrogen refuelling station designs to provide clients the highest quality solutions with the lowest cost of dispensed hydrogen in the market.”
In 2021, Howden said it had supplied three hydrogen compressors to the world’s largest hydrogen refuelling station in China.
The company’s hydrogen diaphragm compressor packages were supplied at the refuelling station in Beijing with the system boasting technological strength and reliability.

Howden recently opened an office in Singapore to increase growth in the hydrogen sector in Southeast Asia.
It will support Howden’s Net Zero by 2035 strategy to grow across wastewater, hydrogen, energy and renewables, and power generation sectors across Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific (APAC), aiming to serve as the Howden activity hub in the region.

Last year, Howden secured a contract with INOVYN to supply low-pressure piston compressor as well as high-pressure diaphragm compressor for its hydrogen production facility in Runcorn, UK.
INOVYN’s site can power over 1,000 buses or 2,000 trucks with low-carbon fuel and can now supply compressed fuel-cell quality hydrogen to the transport and industrial sectors.
