Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), they will drive R&D in technologies designed to harness renewable energy sources and locally produced green hydrogen in various applications.
By collaborating with HDF Energy, the Philippine DoE and MinDA will use its Renewstable® multi-MW hydrogen power plants, which utilise solar or wind energy and water to generate electricity.
To meet ambitious targets in the Philippines, HDF is accelerating its projects in partnership with Reurasia, a company dedicated to driving sustainable development throughout Southeast Asia.
“To make these projects a reality, we need strong support from both local and national stakeholders,” explained Mathieu Geze, President and Director at HDF Energy Philippines Holdings Incorporated.
“We are committed to accelerating these projects, and our ongoing engagements with partner Local Government Units (LGUs), Electric Cooperatives and consultants demonstrate our dedication to our goal of establishing 15 projects in the Philippines, valued at $1.5bn.
“Ten of these projects are planned for implementation in Mindanao.”
Raphael Lotilla, Secretary of the DoE, claimed the agreement marks a “significant milestone” as the country looks to become more energy-sustainable and resilient. “It underscores our collective commitment to harnessing the power of hydrogen technologies which is a pivotal step in achieving our national energy goals,” he added.
H2 View understands that the Government of the Republic of France has supported the initiative through the French Embassy in the Philippines, enhancing its capacity to innovate and implement hydrogen technologies.
