Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies will collaborate on project identification, feasibility studies and the implementation of green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities, focusing on utilising H2Carrier’s DNV-certified P2XFloater technology for production sites.
“The collaboration between GHI and H2Carrier aims to address the growing demand for green ammonia as a clean fuel and energy carrier while supporting industrial decarbonisation in sectors such as shipping, agriculture and heavy industries,” explained Mårten Lunde, H2Carrier CEO.
The CEO added that the partnership will “identify opportunities to implement floating production solutions that bring both economic and environmental benefits to regions aiming for sustainable energy development.”
Floating hydrogen production in India and Sri Lanka could address several challenges, such as creating access to renewable energy resources, including the wind and solar potential; land constraints in regions that have high population densities; and present export potential in key shipping routes.
The Norwegian and Indian companies will begin feasibility studies and partnerships for project financing and deployment in due course.
Sturle Harald Pederson, Chairman and CEO of GHI, said, “The MOU aligns perfectly with our commitment to drive the transition to clean energy and deliver sustainable, scalable green hydrogen and ammonia solutions.
“H2Carrier’s P2XFloater technology, the world’s first floating green ammonia production facility, enables the production of green hydrogen and ammonia using renewable energy sources, providing a cost-effective and flexible solution for large-scale production and export.”
Last April, H2Carrier announced it would explore projects in the Arctic region and applied for licenses to construct two onshore windfarms in Norway, designed to harness Arctic winds for green hydrogen and ammonia production.
