
The German government has scaled back plans to develop hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants to 8GW in a compromise between coalition parties.
The new plan will see Germany tender for 8GW of gas-fired power plants and 2GW of power technologies like battery storage.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the gas plants would be tendered in a way that required them to be “technically capable of using hydrogen” but set no deadline for transition to the energy carrier.
