According to BrainDrip its MOFs and armoured modular vehicles (AMV) can be used to produce its SG Liner and SG Coil, which can be used to convert pipelines to ensure safe, high compression, innervated and leak-free hydrogen transport, and a novel sub-terra storage solution on site.

The SG Liner was developed by the Florida-based company for the conversion of existing pipelines for the transmission, distribution, and line pack storage of hydrogen, offering solutions for pipeline diameters from four inches to 36 inches, with production rates of up to 20ft per minute.

H2 View understands, the company intends to commence a ‘multi-mile, mid-diameter’ natural gas to hydrogen pipeline conversion project in the second quarter of 2023

Utilising the same Innervated Tubular Composite (ITC) technology,  a standard 330 ft. diameter SG Coil can provide over 82,000kg of hydrogen storage per level underground, which BrainDrip says would equate to approximately 117-53ft storage vessel containers or tube trailers and employ over 11 acres of surface area.

Commenting on the SG technologies, Kent Weisenberg, Managing Member and Team Principal at BrainDrip, said, “As a pipeline innovations leader, early on we noted the immense international focus on hydrogen generation technologies and swiftly recognised the equally important need for the capability to safely and efficiently transmit, distribute and store that energy after production.”

The company says its products have been or are being validated by multiple third party players, including renewable energy producers and pipeline owners as well as  Louisiana Tech University, University of Pittsburgh, Purdue University, Kentucky Oil & Gas Association (KOGA) to name a few.

Mike Peters, Lead Hydrogen Consultant at EnServ, former R&D Hydrogen Project Lead at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), said, “SG Technologies are a game changer for hydrogen and hydrogen blend distribution, repurposing of the US pipeline infrastructure, as well as local hydrogen or RNG storage.”
