EU weighs CBAM suspension for fertilisers, prompting warnings from clean ammonia firms

France and Italy are seeking temporary exemptions for fertilisers from the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) days after its launch, drawing warnings from clean hydrogen-based ammonia importers that the move could undermine competitiveness.

CBAM, which entered force on 1 January, levies carbon emissions on imports, including steel and fertilisers, to level the playing field with European producers.
