Announced last Thursday (June 2), the €3m ($3.2m) electrolyser order will add to Glencore Nikkelverk’s existing electrolyser capacity at the site in Southern Norway.

Henning Langås, Senior Tender Manager at Nel Hydrogen, said, “We are honoured to be re-elected as electrolyser supplier to Glencore Nikkelverk through their competitive tender-process when they now shall expand their production of hydrochloric acid.

“Given their high competence on electrolyser technology, with primary focus on safety and reliability, we look forward to strengthening our relationship with Glencore through the project execution and beyond.”

H2 View understands the equipment is expected to be delivered in mid 2023.

Nils Gjelsten, Managing Director of Gelncore Nikkelverk, commented, “Hydrogen is an important input factor in our processes and very high reliability is required.

“Nikkelverk has produced Hydrogen for internal use for more than 60 years. We are pleased to continue a long relationship with Nel and their well proven and reliable alkaline electrolysers.”

The news comes less than a month after Nel revealed it is hoping to expand its production capacity beyond its landmark Herøya electrolyser production plant in Norway.
