In achieving this, it could provide a huge boost to Europe’s hydrogen economy and secure import and international trade within the clean energy space.

Within the framework of the partnership the companies will investigate potential joint engagements along the entire hydrogen value chain to build a source for secure, long-term green hydrogen supply.

E.ON to convert natural gas pipeline to hydrogen

Tree Energy Solutions (TES) is aim to support the development of a world-scale hydrogen hub in the German port of Wilhelmshaven which will support the growth of the hydrogen sector in Europe.

Green hydrogen will be at the core of the project and will interconnect various corresponding hydrogen hotspots in Germany providing a basis to expand hydrogen operations and its capabilities.

TES believes an acceleration of its project will be fully consistent with and supportive of the strategic priorities of sustainability and diversification of energy supply, by accommodating the handling of gas imports alongside imports of green gas in the early stages.

Partnering with E.ON provides the port with opportunities to export the hydrogen across Germany and the EU creating supply and demand for the clean energy carrier.

In order to achieve this, the company is expected to significantly expand the commitment and plans to engage in electrolysers, grid infrastructure, and renewable energies to produce green hydrogen close to our customers as well as engage in investments along the entire hydrogen value chain.

Patrick Lammers, Chief Operating Officer at E.ON, said, “The ramp-up of a functioning hydrogen economy must have top priority in Germany and Europe. The partnership with TES is an important step on the way to a sustainable energy landscape while ensuring security of supply.

“It moves us a step closer to net-zero; without the use of green gases such as hydrogen, it will be impossible to completely avoid CO2 emissions.”

Paul van Poecke, founder and Managing Director at Tree Energy Solutions, said, “This is an exciting long-term partnership that will allow us to combine relevant experience to accelerate the decarbonisation of the energy chain.

“Our ambition is to build the Wilhelmshaven location into a hub for international hydrogen trading and upgrade the infrastructure accordingly. Through this hub TES will supply a mix of green and clean energy to economically lead Europe to reach it net-zero ambitions.

“We are excited to partner with E.ON to reach net-zero in the German market and support E.ON in its decarbonisation strategy.”

North American Hydrogen Summit

H2 View is taking its events platform to America’s original clean hydrogen hub of California. Together with the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP), we will stage our North American Hydrogen Summit in San Francisco on July 14-15.

As our summit theme Building Bridges: Hydrogen hubs and investment suggests, the event will explore the $8bn of funding announced to create at least four regional hydrogen hubs in the US. These hubs will turbo-charge the nation’s progress toward heavy trucking and industrial sectors that run without producing carbon pollution – and they may just provide the path forward to a hydrogen-fuelled future.

With California and Texas vying to be America’s hydrogen capital today, where are the hubs of tomorrow? Further still, what can other states, and countries, learn from California’s success story? And how can we build bridges to a successful flow of international investment?

Our early bird offer tickets are $1,000, for a limited time only. If you are a member of the CaFCP, be sure to grab your ticket at a discounted rate with a code that can be provided to you by the events team.
