Headed by HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Hanson UK, the effort has potential to save nearly 180,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) at the British Ribblesdale site if implemented throughout the whole kiln system.

The climate-neutral cement production was led by the British Mineral Products Association (MPA) and funded by the British Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Material production with green technologies is a significant step forward in helping the UK achieve both its climate ambitions and goals outlined out in the recently released Hydrogen Strategy.

Trials at the Yorkshire Dales plant are part of a wide £3.2m project which has been funded by BEIS as part of its Industrial Fuel Switching Competition.
