With a goal to support the priorities identified by the Strategic Research Agenda, set out by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership – then the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking – the funding looks to drive forward the creation of hydrogen technologies.

Across 26 available topics, the Partnership has made available:

€49m for seven topics on renewable hydrogen production
€36m for five topics on hydrogen storage and distribution
€25.5m for three topics on transport
€19m for four topics on heat and power
€7.5m for three topics on cross-cutting
€38m for two topics on hydrogen valleys
€20m for two topics on strategic research

H2 View understands the topics will be grouped into 11 innovation actions (IA), 13 research and innovation actions (RIA), and two coordination and support actions (CSA), with five of the IAs considered of strategic importance and have been selected as flagship projects.

Submissions for applications are set to open on January 31, 2023, with the deadline of April 18, 2023, 17:00 (CET). A full list of projects can be found here.

Speaking at European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, Belgium last October (2022), Bart Beibuyck, Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership stressed the need for research as the hydrogen industry strives to scale.

“We still need research,” said Beibuyck. “Let’s be very honest, today, the biggest electrolyser in the field in Europe is 10MW. We have eight years to build 200GW, which is a challenge.”
