The announcement comes after Wyoming joined Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah in signing a Memorandum of Understanding to create the WISHH coalition in February (2022), with intentions of receiving a slice of the DOE’s $8bn Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub fund.

H2 View understands, the prime contractor will aid the development and submission of an application, and if successful will manage the implementation of the regional hydrogen hub.

At H2 View’s North America Hydrogen Summit in San Francisco, US, last Friday (July 15), James Kenney, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department, told the summit how an uptake in hydrogen could contribute to the WISHH member’s climate goals.

Kenney said, “New Mexico Gas Company has said the state could get about 7% climate reduction, which is which is equivalent to the entirety of our agricultural sector, if we just simply blend and push out some small amount of hydrogen into our gas distribution system.”

The WEA has said the request for proposals will close on August 16, 2022.
