The appointment of Bakken follows a successful period as Senior Commercial Advisor to ATOME. He brings 35 years of downstream experience in the international fertiliser and ammonia business to the group.
Bakken was previously Senior Vice President at Yara International and Head of Marketing and Sales at EuroChem Group.
Bakken believes ATOME has the potential to be a ‘world leader’ in the fast-growing green ammonia market and in sustainable fertiliser solutions.
Last year, UK-based green hydrogen technology manufacturer CPH2 invested £1.5m in ATOME energy, to accelerate the roll out of its projects in South America, while also seeing CPH2’s Membrane Free Electrolyser (MFEs) enter the region.
ATOME is focused on developing green hydrogen and ammonia production in South America and recently secured a loan for a 120MW green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Paraguay.

Olivier Mussat, CEO of ATOME, said, “ Terje’s rare skills and experience, particularly in key downstream market, represent a key addition to ATOME’s team.
“His expertise will allow us to maximise revenues from off takers for our green ammonia and accelerate the already rapid progress on our projects.”
