
The AquaVentus industry group wants Germany’s flagship offshore wind law to allow green hydrogen production to take place at sea, instead of having to send electricity back to land.
The association said if Germany’s Wind Energy at Sea Act (WindSeeG) remains focused on electricity-only connections, future offshore wind sites may be planned in ways that block or complicate hydrogen projects.
Its comments come in response to a consultation by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) on amendments to the WindSeeG, which came into force in 2017 to support expanding offshore wind energy to 70GW by 2045.
