
Air Products’ decision to build green hydrogen import infrastructure in Europe hinges on EU nations transposing green hydrogen rules under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), its CEO has said.
Eduardo Menezes told investors the industrial gas major needs regulatory clarity before committing to ammonia import terminals or cracking plants on the continent to bring in volumes of hydrogen from its 2.2GW Neom plant in Saudi Arabia.
Air Products halted those plans in May when it pivoted the Neom strategy towards selling green ammonia from the Neom site until 2030, when its first offtake agreement is set to start.
