Air Products replaces investor relations head amid strategy overhaul

The US major announced that Megan Britt has been appointed Vice-President, Investor Relations, effective 11 August to replace Eric Guter, who is leaving Air Products to “pursue other opportunities.”

Guter, who previously headed Air Products’ hydrogen mobility team, has been at the company since 1995. He was appointed to the investor relations position under former CEO Seifi Ghasemi.

Britt, who has previously worked at Archer-Daniels Midland, Tyson Foods, Corteva Agriscience, and DuPont, will report to Air Products’ CFO Melissa Schaeffer.

“We are committed to creating shareholder value every day as we focus on our core capabilities, capital discipline and productivity,” Schaeffer said.

“Megan’s expertise will be valuable in communicating our progress and further strengthening relationships with analysts and investors around the world.”

Last month, the firm replaced its now-former general secretary Sean Major – another longstanding Air Products employee – with Matthew Lepore.

Some industry insiders told H2 View to expect more changes in the executive line-up, as new CEO Eduardo Menezes looks to shape the company to his agenda.

Menezes was appointed early this year following the investor-led ousting of Ghasemi, amid concerns that the industrial gas giant was diverging from its traditional business model into more risky developments, with clean hydrogen right at the core.

Ghasemi had positioned the high-capex drive as a way to capture “first mover advantages.” However, the strategy showed clear divergence from the company’s peers, typically known for delivering stable, long-term returns through take-or-pay contracts.

As more projects came onto the books, cash reserves fell significantly, while debt steadily increased.

Once in post, Menezes announced a $3.1bn write-down as it exited three US projects, including a green hydrogen plant and a hydrogen-based sustainable aviation fuel project, and made changes to its strategy on the 2.2GW Neom green hydrogen project.
