H2-View News: Repsol invests €16m in biohydrogen to fuel renewable diesel at Puertollano

The turquoise hydrogen will be used at Repsol’s 100% renewable fuel plant in Castile-La Mancha, set to launch in 2026 with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year. Integrating biohydrogen is expected to cut the CO₂ footprint of its renewable diesel by up to 98% compared to fossil-based fuel. Repsol said developing biohydrogen is a step forward in producing renewable hydrogen through diverse technologies, “adapted to the needs” of its Puertollano complex. The announcement comes shortly after the oil and gas giant shelved plans for a 130MW hydrogen project at the complex that was set to supply its Puertollano plant. [...]

H2-View News: ÖBB and Voestalpine lay ‘world’s first’ hydrogen-based rail in Linz

Voestalpine used hydrogen-reduced iron from Primetals Technologies’ Hyfor pilot plant at its Donawitz site, then melted it at its TechMet research steelworks and rolled it into finished rail at the adjacent mill. The Hyfor plant started up in 2021, and in April, Primetals, Mitsubishi, voestalpine, and Rio Tinto agreed to build a hydrogen-based ironmaking plant in Linz using the plants and smelter technologies. For the hydrogen rail project, Voestalpine lowered the rail’s carbon footprint by blending Hyfor-produced hydrogen-based iron with recycled scrap steel in the production process. Franz Kainersdorfer, Voestalpine Board Member and Metal Engineering Head, called the project “one [...]

H2-View News: IEEFA warns Australian hydrogen export focus risks wasting public money

The Australian government should redirect green hydrogen subsidies toward domestic industries already reliant on fossil-based hydrogen, rather than backing export-focused developments. That’s the message from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), which warns that many proposed hydrogen export projects are economically unviable and risk wasting public funds. The call comes amid a string of government-backed projects being cancelled or severely delayed due to high production costs and limited demand. H2-View News: Cefmof selects Asahi Kasei electrolyser for green hydrogen refuelling in Jyväskylä

The Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof) plans to install the ‘Aqualyzer-C3′ system in Jyväskylä before the end of the year. H2 View understands that the electrolyser can produce enough hydrogen to refuel three fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in a single hour. As one of Asahi’s containerised modules, Cefmof can gradually expand production capacity through additional units, which can reach up to 7.5 MW capacities. Established by the City of Jyväskylä and Toyota subsidiaries, Cefmof is designed to accelerate the development of sustainable mobility and urban planning by harnessing green hydrogen. Cefmof is expected to use the electrolyser to promote hydrogen-powered [...]

H2-View News: HRS to deploy mobile hydrogen refuelling station in Glasgow

Under a Letter of Intent with UK-based Element 2, HRS will supply its dual-pressure station, capable of dispensing 14kg of hydrogen per hour. H2 View understands that the mobile facility can be deployed to a new site in just 10 days and brings the number of HRS refuelling stations in the UK up to four. “This collaboration illustrates our shared vision for the decarbonisation of transport, the progress of our international diversification strategy and the renewed confidence of our client, the UK leader in hydrogen charging,” HRS stated online. The agreement follows up on a previous deal with Element 2 [...]

H2-View News: Hygen Energy seeks funding to develop UK hydrogen valley

Building on the UK government-backed joint venture between Hygen and N-Gen – the Bradford hydrogen electrolyser project – Hygen plans to install five hydrogen refuelling stations, 60 mobile hydrogen fuelling units, and 15 hydrogen tube trailers. Hydrogen infrastructure across Leeds, Bradford and Hull is expected to underpin the deployment of 450 hydrogen-powered assets, including coaches, trucks, mobile generators, construction machinery, materials handling equipment, and light commercial vehicles, to stimulate early mobility demand. To realise these plans, Hygen is seeking grant funding through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s Hydrogen Valleys competition to unlock £250m ($333.5m) in capital investment. The ‘Lighter than Aire [...]

H2-View News: ArcelorMittal explores hydrogen from steel off-gas at Brazilian plant

US start-up Utility Global announced that it is conducting early engineering work at ArcelorMittal’s Juiz de Fora facility to install its H2Gen system, which utilises blast-furnace off-gas to produce hydrogen from water. Utility is hoping to determine the technical and economic feasibility of installing the three-tonne-per-day hydrogen production system at the site in Minas Gerais. The H2Gen system uses an electrochemical process to convert steam and gas feedstocks into hydrogen and CO2. It is pitched as a modular, low-cost alternative to electrolysis and steam methane reforming, which does not rely on electrical or natural gas inputs. Utility says it could [...]

H2-View News: Enertrag acquires land for IPCEI-backed green hydrogen plant in Brandenburg

The project in Prenzlau, supported by the European Hy2Infra programme, is expected to produce 12,500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The site includes a 130MW electricity connection. Hydrogen from the project is planned to be fed into a section of Germany’s hydrogen core network for transportation to industrial users. Enertrag says “several” trailer filling stations will also be built. It comes as part of the Hy2Infra IPCEI, which offered up to €6.9bn ($8.03bn) in funding for 33 hydrogen projects across seven EU member states. The project is among 3.2GW of electrolysis capacity backed by Hy2Infra, 1.5GW of which is [...]

H2-View News: India allocates $7.8m to four green hydrogen projects in innovation clusters

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) approved the $7.8m funding round under the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s central financial assistance (CFA) scheme, which is designed to accelerate green hydrogen deployment. The National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) will receive $2m for a project being developed in Pune, western India, while energy research organisation ANERT has been allocated $2.4m for its Kerala plans. Two further initiatives led by the Indian Institutes of Technology have been awarded $1.7m and $1.6m for projects in Bhubaneswar and Jodhpur, respectively. Located in HVICs, the produced hydrogen is expected to serve both existing industrial uses and [...]
