H2-View News: Belgian transport operator retires hydrogen buses, focuses on electrification

In addition to the fuel cell buses being decommissioned, De Lijn also decided to dismantle the hydrogen refuelling station located at Vaartkaai, according to local news site Nieuwsblad. Ultimately, the collapse of bus manufacturer Van Hool was a key factor in the decision to cancel the hydrogen-powered public transport operations. Flemish Minister of Mobility, Annick De Ridder, explained that the transport operators are now focusing on electrification. “With the bankruptcy, technical support and maintenance options disappeared, combined with higher operational costs over their lifetime, the decision was made to dismantle the hydrogen refuelling station at Vaartkaai and retire the five [...]

H2-View News: FuelCell Energy and MMHE advance hydrogen collaboration with feasibility study in Malaysia

Under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), they will combine FCEL’s solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) technology with the Malasyia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB) subsidiary’s expertise in large-scale fabrication to develop modular solutions suitable for hydrogen production facilities. Building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023, the two companies will undertake a Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) to evaluate the production of low-carbon fuel in Malaysia using SOEC technology. Additionally, they will collaborate with KBR to utilise its low-carbon fuel synthesis technology as part of the DFS. “Building on our earlier efforts, this partnership highlights our readiness [...]

H2-View News: Morocco approves $32.7bn for six hydrogen-based projects

The UAE’s Taqa and Moeve (formerly Cepsa) will focus on green ammonia and synthetic fuel production. Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power aims to develop green steel, while Moroccan firm Nareva will work on green ammonia, industrial fuel, and green steel. A consortium led by US-based Ortus, Spain’s Acciona, and German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex – operating under the ORNX consortium – will also produce green ammonia. Similarly, UEG and China Three Gorges will develop green ammonia production, forming the sixth project. The Moroccan Government has offered each of these projects up to 30,000 hectares of land, as long as preliminary agreements are signed. According to local reports, the selection process remains open to new investors interested in developing hydrogen projects in [...]

H2-View News: Egypt unveils $17bn plan for 400,000 tpa green hydrogen plant

The Investment Opportunities Platform of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones in Egypt has launched the project. While details on the project are thin, local reports state it will require 127 square kilometres and could produce up to 400,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year (tpa). A 3.1GW solar array, supported by pumped hydro storage, would power electrolysers during the day while simultaneously pumping water to a mountain-top reservoir. At night, the stored water would flow downhill, driving electricity-generating turbines to ensure continuous, round-the-clock operations. The first phase is expected to be completed in 2030, the second in [...]

H2-View News: Titan to provide modularised manufacturing for EH2’s 100MW electrolyser under new partnership

At Titan’s US facility in Columbus, Texas, they will engineer EH2’s first commercial plant, deploying the same expertise and workers it would use to build traditional oil and gas infrastructure. To ensure reliable and rapid deployment, the plant is pre-assembled and pre-tested before shipment to a customer site. “By combining EH2’s proprietary advanced technology with Titan’s world-class process equipment fabrication expertise and facilities, we can deliver a superior electrolyser solution at half the cost of others in the market,” explained Raffi Garabedian, EH2’s CEO and Co-Founder. Reportedly, EH2’s product can enable up to 60% lower total installed costs for electrolytic [...]

H2-View News: Ineratec raises €70m for ‘Europe’s largest’ e-fuels project in Germany

Located in Frankfurt, Germany, the plant is expected to produce up to 2,500 tonnes of e-fuel per year. Construction began in 2023, and commissioning was originally scheduled for 2024. Ineratec’s production process combines hydrogen and CO2 derived from biogenic sources to then produce synthetic crude oil, which can be processed into sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), marine fuels and e-diesel. © Ineratec Carbon will be sourced from Infraserv Höchst’s nearby biogas plant, although specific details about the electrolyser supplier have not been disclosed. “Ineratec is on a promising path towards demonstrating that e-fuels can be economically produced at scale with the [...]

H2-View News: Ignis scales back hydrogen and ammonia investments in Chile

According to reports, the decision was made in response to the slower global pace of the hydrogen industry, even though the company “firmly believes that the industry will mature.” In Tierra del Fuege, the Magallanes region, the company planned to build the first 2.25GW phase of a wider 4.5GW wind power network. Reportedly, the project would also feature 4GW of electrolysers to produce hydrogen and ammonia using renewable sources. Ignis is now adjusting its timeline and project scope in response. Its initiative in Chile is under comprehensive review to assess its size, land use and potential sites. Despite these adjustments, [...]

H2-View News: Storegga submits plans for Speyside hydrogen facility to decarbonise whisky industry

Located in Marypark, Ballindalloch, Storegga has submitted its proposal to the Moray Council. The planning application follows two public consultations and is now under review. If approved, production is expected to begin next year. The Speyside Hydrogen Facility will produce hydrogen using an electrolyser to decarbonise the nation’s whisky industry, which reportedly recorded over 600,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2022. A recent report, published by elementenergy, identified distilleries as the third largest demand source for hydrogen in the industry, with the potential annual hydrogen demand for all distilleries in Scotland estimated to be 1.4 TWh. Storegga’s Speyside project will involve [...]
