H2-View News: Uniper secures rights to explore hydrogen salt caverns in Cheshire
Under a feasibility development agreement, Uniper holds exclusive rights to assess all 13 caverns of the Salinae Hydrogen Storage project for hydrogen storage. The companies will jointly design the first two wells for potential hydrogen storage caverns, with development contingent on Uniper securing planning approval and government support. With no established hydrogen market, Uniper says a government-backed business model is needed to move the project forward. “Flexible energy storage is a fundamental component of both the energy transition and the security of the UK’s energy supply,” explained John Rixham, Uniper Head of Hydrogen Storage Development for the UK. “Cheshire has [...]
H2-View News: ‘Fundamental reset’ | Ballard targets 30% cost cuts, shifts focus to high-margin hydrogen fuel cells
The goal comes as part of a strategic realignment announced by new President and CEO Marty Neese, as the company looks to turn the tide on its finances. Pitched as a “fundamental reset” in how the company operates, innovates, Neese said Ballard would be focusing on “the market as it is.” “We are aligning the Company around real, near-term opportunities where we have proven product-market fit and clear customer value, while driving toward a sustainable business model rooted in operational excellence and margin discipline,” he said. A company statement said the plan would involve “difficult decisions”, including job cuts. In [...]
H2-View News: Hyphen selects China’s CC7 to engineer 3GW green ammonia project
The facility, which is understood to be the world’s largest hydrogen-based ammonia project, is worth around $10bn and set to produce over two million tonnes of the hydrogen carrier per year once at full scale in 2030. China National Chemical Engineering Company subsidiary CC7 has been awarded the front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. H2 View understands that the firm is one of the largest EPC corporations in the world. Since it was founded in 1964, CC7 has completed more than 600 domestic projects in the fields of chemical industry and municipal works, including [...]

H2-View News: National Gas contracts WSP to lead design of east coast hydrogen backbone
As the front-end engineering and design (FEED) study integrator, WSP will work with Kent, Murphy, Aecrom, Premzero and National Gas’s hydrogen and service teams to deliver a two-year programme of design, environmental assessment, consents and public consultation. Project Union, led by National Gas Transmission (NGT), aims to repurpose parts of the National Transmission System (NTS) and construct new infrastructure, targeting approximately 1,500 miles of hydrogen pipelines. © National Gas The first phase of the project will focus on the UK’s east coast and connect Track 1 hydrogen clusters in Humber and Teesside. Future phases will expand the network across the [...]
H2-View News: HydrogenOne fund to return cash to shareholders in managed realisation
The London-listed investment trust said it would pursue a “managed realisation” of its assets, following a review which cited limited scale, and inability to raise follow-on capital, and persistently wide share price discounts to NAV. To support the wind-down, HydrogenOne has appointed Redwheel Asset Management LLP as its new investment adviser and Global Fund Management Services (GFM) as the Alternative Investment Fund Manager. Redwheel replaces HydrogenOne Capital LLP, the trust’s founding adviser, while GFM takes over from Fundrock Partners. The board said the appointments were made to reduce costs and improve shareholder outcomes during the process. Under the revised structure, [...]
H2-View News: EU to subsidise non-RFNBO hydrogen in €1.1bn European Hydrogen Bank auction
Under the draft terms and conditions for the Innovation Fund auction, eligibility has been expanded to include RFNBO and electrolytic hydrogen that does not exclusively use renewable power. These molecules will need to have 70% lower greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels, under the EU’s recently adopted criteria for low-carbon hydrogen. It comes as the first time that the bloc will subsidise non-RFNBO clean hydrogen, following pressure from industry to provide relaxed rules to ease project development and lower costs. Under the RFNBO rules, designed to ensure only green electricity is used in production, electrolyser operators must source power from [...]
H2-View News: Elogen completes only announced PEM electrolyser order
The embattled technology firm supplied the PEM system for the Baseload Power Hub (BLPH), which is connected to the Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind farm. First ordered in 2023, the module underwent a 17-week commissioning phase and was completed ahead of the platform’s planned sail-away next month. Parent company GTT Group has been conducting a strategic review of its subsidiary Elogen, though no update on the company’s future has been issued since February 2025. Elogen’s CEO stepped down following a €33m EBITDA loss for the 2024 financial year. The company also announced that construction of its electrolyser gigafactory has [...]
H2-View News: Transport for Wales plans hydrogen bus trial in Swansea
According to reports, the city will trial hydrogen-powered public transport operations and explore the development of a hydrogen refuelling hub on Fabian Way. H2 View understands that Swansea Council expect the buses to be operational from 2027. “We’re helping the Welsh government’s ambition for buses to be zero-emission by 2035,” TfW said in a statement. “We’re investigating the potential for trialling hydrogen fuel cell buses in Swansea as part of our work to support the growth of a hydrogen bus fleet in Wales. “The scheme will reduce pollution and allow local people to travel in an environmentally friendly way.” Elsewhere [...]
H2-View News: Siemens Energy partners with Paragon to scale aluminium-based hydrogen tech
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies plan to scale up the global deployment of Paragon’s hydrogen production technology, which reportedly doesn’t use electrolysis, electricity or fossil fuels. Siemens Energy said the process yields hydrogen gas, aluminium hydroxide, which can be used in industrial applications, and heat, which can be converted into electricity. With no CO2 emissions, there is also no need for carbon capture technologies. Paragon has several patents filed surrounding the production process, including for reactor design and an advanced AI-based control system. Under the preliminary agreement, Siemens Energy will serve as the preferred technology partner. [...]
