H2-View News: Latvenergo partners with H2Pro to explore 5MW hydrogen project using decoupled electrolysis
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Israel’s H2Pro will work with Latvia’s national electricity company, Latvenergo, to explore the feasibility of deploying its 5MW electrolyser in the latter’s energy infrastructure. Together, they aim to integrate Latvia’s solar and wind resources to power with H2Pro’s electrolysis technology. Latvian Minister of Economy, Viktors Valainis, said he hopes to “keep developing the energy and other sectors of economy in a mutually beneficial way between Latvia and Israel.” After signing the MOU in Tel Aviv, Israel, Tzahi Rodrig, CEO of H2Pro, claimed that Latvenergo presents an “excellent environment for demonstrating the unique advantages of [...]
H2-View News: TotalEnergies secures 15-year supply from RWE’s 300MW green hydrogen plant
The French oil major will use the volumes in its Leuna refinery in Saxony-Anhalt from 2030 to replace some of the grey hydrogen used in its operations. The hydrogen will be delivered via a 600km section of Germany’s planned 9,000km hydrogen core network (HCN), until the contract’s conclusion in 2044. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, said, “This long-term contract for green hydrogen marks an important milestone to reducing our CO2 emissions at our Leuna refinery.” RWE’s GET H2 Nukleus project at its Lingen gas-fired power plant is currently under construction after reaching final investment decision (FID) last summer. [...]
H2-View News: Sparc Hydrogen begins construction of pilot plant for PWS hydrogen production
Incitias Pty is leading construction under its engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract at the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus, after the Light Regional Council approved planning consent. Sparc also secured the first patent for its licensed PWS reactor technology in Q1 2025. The pilot plant, set for commissioning in mid-2025, will test reactor designs and photocatalyst materials under concentrated solar conditions. The Sparc Technologies, Fortescue and University of Adelaide joint venture aims to advance its PWS reactor from TRL-5 to TRL-6, validate real-world performance and refine engineering and safety protocols. In an online statement, Sparc Hydrogen explained its [...]
H2-View News: Samsung E&A to become Nel’s largest shareholder and hydrogen plant EPC partner
Under an EPC collaboration agreement, the South Korean firm will develop its own hydrogen plant designs based on both Nel’s alkaline and PEM electrolyser stack and balance of stack technology. In a separate agreement, Nel plans to issue 167,132,530 shares to Samsung E&A for NOK 353m ($33.1m) to give the company a 9.1% shareholding in Nel. The share sale is subject to board approval. Nel and Samsung also plan to work on a larger balance of stack system for alkaline electrolysers. The deals come as the near-100-year-old electrolyser maker looks to focus on manufacturing its core stack technologies – a [...]
H2-View News: DNV and ABS grant AiP to Pherousa for ammonia-cracking carrier vessel
Maritime classification societies DNV and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) each awarded an AiP, indicating that the design meets the necessary technical standards and safety requirements. This approval enables Pherousa to advance the development and construction of its ammonia-powered Ultramax carrier vessels. The ships will feature an onboard ammonia cracker, allowing them to convert ammonia into hydrogen, which will then be used as fuel. Pherousa holds an exclusive license to its shareholder Metacon’s ammonia cracking HIWAR concept technology. The technology is versatile and can be integrated with various hydrogen applications, including PEM fuel cells, hydrogen internal combustion engines (ICE), and auxiliary engines. [...]
H2-View News: Just 24% of 2030 clean hydrogen demand will materialise with current policies: report
Developed with McKinsey, the report estimates that 75% of 2030 clean hydrogen demand will come from established use cases like refining and ammonia production, while new applications face tough cost and infrastructure barriers. The report categorises 34 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of potential hydrogen demand in 2030 across the EU, the US and East Asia. Just 8 mtpa expected to be met by existing policies like the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), Japan’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) programme, and the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) – if implemented. But even in these policy-backed sectors, some uses may struggle [...]
Hydrogen Council News: Hydrogen: Closing the cost gap
The Hydrogen: Closing the Cost Gap report, developed with the analytical support of McKinsey & Co, highlights that, despite a challenging environment for clean hydrogen, the effective implementation of existing policies could support uptake of ~8 Mt p.a. of clean hydrogen across the European Union, the United States and East Asia by 2030.
