H2-View News: Tasmania rolls out first hydrogen buses in Hobart public transport trial

Representing a first in public transport for Tasmania as part of Metro’s Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) trial, the project was backed by the government through Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania. The buses, which will use locally produced hydrogen, are expected to operate on a variety of Metro’s Hobart routes, collecting data and insights on the fuel cell-powered vehicles’ performance in Tasmania’s climate and terrain. Partner H2H Energy is set to refuel the vehicles using its H2Core technology – a containerised refuelling station capable of dispensing hydrogen at 35 or 70 MPa. H2 View understands that the green hydrogen will [...]

H2-View News: Meranti Green Steel eyes 2026 FID for 2.5 mtpa green iron project in Oman

Located in Duqm’s Special Economic Zone (Sezad), the hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant is expected to transition to low-carbon iron production by starting with a natural gas and green hydrogen mix, before gradually ramping up to 85% green hydrogen. With commissioning slated for 2029 and construction due to start immediately after FID, MGS has already locked in land at Duqm, secured a conditional gas allocation, and established a local entity to anchor the project. A significant portion of the 2.5 million tonnes per year is earmarked for MGS’ planned green steel mill in Rayong, Thailand, which is set to become [...]

H2-View News: India to launch first hydrogen-powered train on Jind–Sonepat route

According to reports, the prototype train successfully passed load testing at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, one of Indian Railways’ largest and oldest train manufacturing facilities. Expected to be rolled out on the Jind-Sonepat route in Haryana, the diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) will run two daily trips totalling 356km and carry over 2,600 passengers per day. The train’s two 1,600 HP diesel cars have been converted to use hydrogen fuel cell systems, and they will store 220kg of hydrogen in 350-bar high-pressure cylinders. Additionally, a new station in Jind with 3,000kg hydrogen capacity has been built according [...]

H2-View News: EU to reallocate EHB auction funds after 1.3GW of projects withdraw

The three major withdrawals included Deutsche ReGas’ 210MW H2-Hub in Lubmin, Germany; Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) 560MW Zeevonk electrolyser plant in the Netherlands, which was delayed earlier this week; and CIP and Enagás Renovable’s 500MW Catalina electrolyser in Spain. H2 View understands that projects withdrew due to regulatory uncertainty, tight EU deadlines, unfinished hydrogen infrastructure, and, in Catalina’s case, conflicting national funding. Together, the withdrawals represent around 1.3GW of electrolysis capacity, around a third of all capacity awarded across the two auctions. Withdrawn funds from the second auction, which was oversubscribed fourfold with 6.3GW of bids for a [...]

H2-View News: ITM’s Hydropulse to cut out ‘unnecessary intermediaries’ in hydrogen supply

ITM Power’s new plant-building subsidiary aims to produce hydrogen at a cost others “can only dream of,” the company’s CEO has said. Dennis Schulz told analysts that Hydropulse will avoid “unnecessary intermediaries” to provide industrial users with low-cost green hydrogen. The business was launched in June to build decentralised small-scale green hydrogen plants to supply industrial customers under long-term offtake agreements. H2-View News: Charbone secures water and power for flagship Quebec green hydrogen project

The connection, carried out by Hydro-Quebec, sets the stage for hydrogen production equipment to be installed at the Sorel-Tracy project. In parallel, the Sorel-Tracy Water Department has finished installing a 14-inch main water later into the site, which will have enough capacity to support all five planned project phases. Contractors have also now begun work ahead of production equipment arriving in the coming weeks. “We are proud of progress to date and remain on track to commence production this fall,” said President and CEO Dave Gagnon. In its first phase, Sorel-Tracy will produce around 400kg of hydrogen per year, using [...]

H2-View News: Jakson Green wins SECI’s sixth green ammonia auction with record ₹50.75/kg bid

The New Delhi-based energy company will supply 85,000 tonnes of hydrogen-based ammonia per year to Coromandel International’s fertiliser plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The ₹50.75/kg ($580/tonne) bid now sits at the very bottom of the price range, breaking the previous record low of ₹51.80/kg set by NTPC in the second auction. The bid was part of India’s first green ammonia tender under the Sight scheme, Mode-2A, Tranche-I, where SECI is securing supply for 13 fertiliser plants across the country to help the energy transition. The SECI stated that the combination of smart policy, reliable buyers, and transparent auction is creating [...]

H2-View News: German operator forced back to diesel as fuel cell shortage sidelines hydrogen fleet

An EVB spokesperson confirmed to H2 View that only four of the operator’s 14 Alstom Coradia iLint units are still in operation. The hydrogen-powered trains usually operate on the RB33 line between Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervörde and Buxtehude. However, the delay in sourcing fuel cell technology has meant EVB must rely on its diesel backup fleet. The state of Lower Saxony provides up to seven diesel units for EVB’s use, but the operator said not all are available at once. Furthermore, even at full capacity they cannot replace the out-of-service hydrogen multiple units (HEMUs), according to the spokesperson. “The situation with [...]

H2-View News: Westport targets China hydrogen growth as Western markets cool

In its Q2 2025 earnings call, Westport reported that over 50% of its high-pressure controls and systems revenue now comes from China, almost entirely from hydrogen components. Westport’s High-Pressure Controls & Systems (HPCS) revenue fell from $3.6m in Q2 2024 to $2.9m in Q2 2025, a drop the company linked to a global hydrogen market slowdown. The segment supplies hydrogen valves, regulators, and other high-pressure components. “We see the hydrogen development continuing in China at a fast pace,” said Daniel Sceli, CEO of Westport. “We’ve seen it slow down everywhere else.” China is already the world’s most advanced fuel cell [...]

H2-View News: Hydrom offers tax breaks and fee cuts for hydrogen projects in third auction

To speed up final investment decisions (FID), Hydrom will offer a 90% reduction in land lease fees during the development stage, with the discount potentially extended or increased during the engineering phase. Additionally, Hydrom will offer significant base royalty reductions in the early years of production and corporate tax exemptions for up to 10 years. Under its third auction round, Hydrom is offering a 300km land block in Duqm and inviting proposals for projects covering a minimum of 100km. Developers can choose their footprint within the block. Successful participants will also be able to explore selling excess renewable electricity from [...]
