H2-View News: SOEC electrolysis ‘transformative’ for the cost of green ammonia: Ceres

Solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology is reportedly 30% more efficient than PEM and alkaline technologies according to Ceres, but true cost competitiveness could be realised at large-scale green ammonia plants. Chandra Macauley, Ceres’ Principal Product Applications Specialist, claimed the company’s technology will be “transformative” for the cost of hydrogen-based ammonia. H2-View News: Lhyfe supplies Essent with green hydrogen for Bosch boiler testing

The hydrogen was delivered as part of the GROHW project, a collaboration between the Netherlands’ largest energy supplier Essent, Nefit Bosch, Firan, and Witteveen+Bos. The initiative aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the Netherlands, and marks one of the first implemented green hydrogen projects in the country. With Lhyfe supplying the fuel, Essent operates the Deventer hydrogen station, Firan and Witteveen+Bos provide infrastructure expertise, while Bosch is testing boilers ahead of a planned H2-ready combi model by 2029. Although the French producer did not disclose volumes, the hydrogen was delivered to Overijssel in 40-foot containers. In 2024, the company made more [...]

H2-View News: UK and others move on hydrogen floating power hubs

Off-grid power hubs could in theory cut emissions from port operations and accelerate the UK’s transition to Net Zero. Workstreams include the development of a low-pressure nanoporous hydrogen storage module (Rux Energy); integration of the hydrogen balance of plant and power conversion systems (Ricardo); design of complex AC/DC electrical architectures with renewable integration (Schneider Electric, University of Strathclyde); platform naval architecture and hydrodynamic testing (University of Strathclyde, Elire); anchoring and mooring (Triton Anchor Europe); and transportation, installation and operational strategy (Sealand Projects). The feasibility period will run from 13 September to 31 March 2026. The challenges Hydrogen floating power hubs [...]

H2-View News: No redistribution of HAR1 support after project withdrawal

The UK government will not reallocate funding from hydrogen projects awarded support under its first subsidy scheme if they fail to proceed, H2 View understands. The clarification follows Scottish Power’s decision to pause development of its UK green hydrogen projects, including two that had been selected under the first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1). H2-View News: SGN repurposes 30km of UK LTS pipeline to carry hydrogen

The initial repurposed section in Scotland, dubbed LTS Futures, is expected to serve as a blueprint for the 11,600km LTS network. SGN said the successful conversion of the LTS to hydrogen would result in a low-disruption, resilient backbone for a Net Zero energy system. The tests analysed whether operational techniques used for natural gas transportation, such as welding and flow stopping, can be safely applied on live hydrogen pipelines. Hydrogen was sourced from Ineos Grangemouth, Scotland’s largest industrial complex, where it is produced as a by-product of chemical operations. Tony Green, SGN Chief Strategy and Regulation Officer, claimed the LTS [...]

H2-View News: Consultation opens on joint German-Australia hydrogen trade auction

The tender, originally announced in September 2024, will see both nations commit €400m ($464.6m) to the scheme, which could see Australian producers export volumes of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol to Europe. Aimed to support the development of green hydrogen projects, the double-sided auction will see German-funded investment vehicle Hintco purchase hydrogen through long-term contracts and resell it to the highest bidder. The auction’s opening date is proposed for the first half of 2026, with production support planned to run FY2028-29 through FY2037-38. Now, the Australian government is asking for feedback on the tender’s design, with a consultation [...]

H2-View News: Thyssenkrupp Nucera finalises Green Hydrogen Systems asset acquisition

The German OEM confirmed in June that it would buy GHS’ 35-bar A- and X-Series technology and a test facility in Skive, Denmark, amid court-led administration following cash flow struggles and failed restructuring efforts. The transaction was finalised today (September 2) following receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals and administrator consent. H2 View understands that the undisclosed purchase price was entirely settled from Thyssenkrupp Nucera’s “available liquid funds.” “With this acquisition, Thyssenkrupp Nucera strategically strengthens its positioning in the field of alkaline water electrolysis, now additionally also focusing on pressurised solutions,” it said in a statement. “The technology enables highly [...]

H2-View News: ZeroAvia replicates full 250-mile flight in ground test of hydrogen fuel cell system

The hydrogen-electric aviator used its low-temperature PEM fuel cell power generation system, suitable for the ZA600 powertrain, during the simulation. In the 2-hour 38-minute test, the four 200kW modules produced 170kW for take-off, 132kW during a 23-minute climb, and 83kW over a 90-minute cruise, feeding into ZeroAvia’s 600kW propulsion system at a specific power of 1.4kW/kg. The company’s bespoke Venturi mechanism was used for hydrogen recirculation, replacing the heavy blowers traditionally used in fuel cell systems. This reportedly cuts weight, boosts efficiency and reduces failure risks. ZeroAvia’s system has been designed to meet aviation safety standards, and they aim to [...]

H2-View News: China to dominate global green hydrogen notes S&P report

Analysts forecast China will produce 33.4 million metric tonnes (MMT) of zero-emission electrolytic hydrogen by 2050, compared with 4.7 MMT in the US and 20 MMT in the European Union; this represents a sharp jump in last year’s forecast which projected China would produce 11.2 MMT of green hydrogen by mid-century. The analysts’ base case forecast, published annually, reflects a dramatic surge in Chinese electrolyser development over the past year. Envision recently commissioned the ‘world’s largest’ green hydrogen and ammonia plant in Chifeng, China, powered entirely by an off-grid renewable energy system. “While there have been recent policy delays from [...]
