H2-View News: Port of Alicante launches consultation on 1MW hydrogen plant

The Preliminary Market Consultation runs until September 30, with APA seeking private partners to finance, build and operate the green hydrogen plant under concession. Under the project structure, APA will set the framework, while the private sector carries the financial and technical risk. The construction timeline will depend on the concession award and final tender decisions on capacity and scope. The planned 1MW plant will be designed for future scale-up. Dubbed Portali-H2, the project is expected to source at least 70% of its energy from renewables, “moving towards maximum energy autonomy.” The hydrogen produced will be used in port operations, [...]

H2-View News: Verso Energy signs 10-year green hydrogen deal with SHS Group

From 2029, Verso will supply at least 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen from its Carling Hydrogen Next Generation (CarlHYng) project in France. The green hydrogen will supply SHS Group’s Saarland steelmakers, including Dillinger’s heavy plate production, Saarstahl’s long products and the joint venture ROGESA. Each company is transitioning under the government-backed Power4Steel decarbonisation programme. Verso plans to flow the hydrogen through the cross-border mosaHYc pipeline into the Dillingen steel plant, before being distributed across SHS’ facilities. The volumes will be used alongside scrap metal in new direct reduction and electric arc furnaces to reduce CO2 emissions. The energy firm specified [...]

H2-View News: H2H Energy to manufacture hydrogen refuelling stations in Tasmania

H2H has partnered with local firms Prowire Group and TAS Hydraulics to build its first station in Ulverstone next year. The consortium is aiming to leverage local skills, make Ulverstone a clean energy hub, and support the Tasmanian state’s transition to hydrogen-powered transport. Last month, H2H took part in the first hydrogen-powered public transport trial in Hobart. Three hydrogen buses delivered by Foton Mobility Distribution were rolled out in the city, with hydrogen supplied from Blue Economy’s small-scale hydrogen facility. As part of the new initiative, Prowire will handle electrical systems, TAS Hydraulics will manage the hydraulics, with H2H driving [...]

H2-View News: Hydrogen molecule sales expected to overtake electrolyser business, says ITM CEO

ITM Power expects revenues from hydrogen molecule sales and services to eventually overtake its core electrolyser business in the long-term, as the company pushes ahead with its new Hydropulse subsidiary. CEO Dennis Schulz told H2 View that the new build-own-operate business would allow the ITM Group to follow a similar path to major industrial gas players. H2-View News: European magnetocaloric pilot plant targets €1.50/kg hydrogen liquefaction

The pilot, developed with HyLical by Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and startup Magnotherm, may pave the way for large-scale industrial applications. Magnetic cooling technology represents a new type of climate-friendly and energy-efficient power, without compressors and environmentally harmful refrigerant gases. The magnetocaloric effect occurs when materials with certain properties – such as lanthanum-iron-silicon alloy (LaFeSi) – are placed in a magnetic field. The HyLICAL demonstrator is powered by a 19-tesla superconducting magnet embedded in the floor of HZDR’s High Magnetic Field Laboratory. In comparison, medical MRI machines typically use 1.5–3 tesla magnets. Depending on the orientation of the magnetic moments, the [...]

H2-View News: HIF Global relocates Tasmanian hydrogen-based methanol plans to former paper mill

The Chilean-founded e-fuels developer has shifted plans for HIF Tasmania following engineering and site reviews. The former Pulp Mill site reportedly offers construction cost savings, port access for trade, and local resources such as recycled wastewater. “The move will bring new life to one of the region’s most significant industrial sites, returning long-term employment to the community while supporting Tasmania’s ambition to be a leader in renewable energy,” the company explained. Announced in 2022, the project is expected to produce over 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year once operational, supported by 280MW of electrolyser capacity. HIF plans to submit its [...]

H2-View News: Chile approves $423m green hydrogen project in Calama mining district

Chilean clean energy developer Susterra will begin with a 20MW electrolyser in Antofagasta’s mining district, a $68m first phase set to scale to 100MW and eventually 200MW. Initially, the plant will produce nine tonnes of green hydrogen per day, before reaching 45 tonnes and 90 tonnes per day, respectively, bringing the total project cost to $423m. The hydrogen produced will be supplied to the local mining industry via tube trailers in a bid to decarbonise operations. The green hydrogen will substitute diesel in mining processes that are hard to electrify, such as ore haulage, refining, smelting and transport. Renewable energy [...]

H2-View News: Provaris, Baker Hughes sign deal to advance compressed hydrogen systems

The deal, which replaces a 2024 MoU, will see Baker Hughes provide compression technology, engineering services, and cost-modelling support for Provaris’ planned 450–2,000-tonne high-pressure tanks for carrier vessels and barges. Chief Technology Officer, Per Roed, said, “This collaboration strengthens our ability to deliver scalable, efficient hydrogen transport and storage solutions.” Provaris is developing a 450-tonne system based on a standard MR tanker to store hydrogen at 250 bar, a 2,000-tonne capacity system, and a 300–600-tonne storage barge. It argues high-pressure hydrogen systems will beat ammonia for hydrogen transportation on price and capital. According to its own Concept Design Study, Provaris [...]

H2-View News: India’s Acme signs preliminary deal to supply green ammonia to Japan

However, the Indian renewables firm has not disclosed the volume of green ammonia to be supplied to Japan. “By supplying green ammonia, India is poised to become a global hub for green energy production,” Acme stated on LinkedIn. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan. “This partnership aligns with [Acme’s] vision for a decarbonised world but also reinforces India’s commitment to its climate goals,” the company added. The deal follows Acme’s successful bids in India’s green ammonia auction series, which recently concluded. Acme Cleantech won three contracts to supply the [...]

H2-View News: Scotland and AquaVentus partner on North Sea hydrogen pipeline plans

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two organisations plan to combine Scotland’s offshore wind with AquaVentus’ offshore electrolysis expertise, linking export and import goals across the North Sea. The AquaDuctus pipeline is a planned offshore hydrogen link designed to carry green hydrogen through the North Sea, using a pipes and wires hybrid approach. The German consortium plans 10GW of offshore electrolysers in the North Sea, producing around one million tonnes of green hydrogen. The pipeline design allows offshore wind farms to deliver electricity when the grid needs it, or convert power into hydrogen via electrolysis and transport it through [...]
