H2-View News: KBR to test Amogy ammonia cracking with hydrogen production platforms

Under a Memorandum of Understanding, they plan to evaluate ruthenium ammonia cracking catalysts within KBR green and blue hydrogen production platforms. The two North American companies plan for commercial deployment in offshore and industrial applications. KBR plans to complement its hydrogen portfolio with Amogy’s systems. In particular, the company highlighted its H2KPlus blue hydrogen SMR platform and H2ACT ammonia-to-hydrogen solution. Ammonia catalysts make it easier and more efficient to crack ammonia into hydrogen at lower temperatures. KBR aims to make its hydrogen platforms more attractive to customers by upgrading its ammonia cracking offering and expanding into a new market. Used [...]

H2-View News: Dow confirms up to two-year delay for chemicals complex with blue hydrogen

CEO Jim Fitterling confirmed the delay to its Path2Zero project, originally announced in April, could last between one and two years until market conditions improve, pushing back what had been billed as a showcase for hydrogen in chemicals decarbonisation. The $11.5bn Path2Zero project plans to expand Dow’s ethylene and polyethylene capacity in Fort Saskatchewan while cutting around 1.5 million tonnes of annual carbon dioxide emissions. At the heart of Path2Zero is a large-scale blue hydrogen facility, designed to fuel Dow’s new ethylene cracker and existing operations in place of natural gas. Built and operated by industrial gas major Linde, the [...]

H2-View News: HIF Global selects Electric Hydrogen electrolysers for 1.8GW e-methanol project

The $7bn HIF Matagorda project is slated to be one of the largest e-fuel plants in the world and produce 1.4 million tonnes of e-methanol per year by combining green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide. Electric Hydrogen will supply its standardised electrolyser plants, which range from 75MW–100MW, to the facility in South Texas to deliver what the firms promise will be low costs and short construction timelines. The plants contain stacks and all balance of plant equipment, which Electric Hydrogen claims can reduce hydrogen project capital spends by up to 60%. This new agreement appears to override an original electrolyser [...]

H2-View News: EU demand creation could shape or stall global market: Hydrogen Council CEO

The EU could shape global clean hydrogen growth, but delays in finalising rules risk holding back projects at home and abroad, according to the Hydrogen Council’s CEO. Ivana Jemelkova told H2 View while countries like China and the US are advancing through industrial policy and tax incentives, Europe’s strength lies in its ability to drive demand through regulation. H2-View News: UK pledges £448m to cut shipping emissions under UK Shore programme

Building on the £240m ($326m) already invested since 2022, the new government funding marks the second phase of the Shore programme (2026 to 2030). This stage will support research, demonstration projects and commercial trials of zero-emission vessels and infrastructure. The additional £448m will be combined with £700m of private investment announced at London International Shipping Week. The £1.1bn ($1.5bn) package will also support port upgrades and create jobs and growth in coastal communities. Projects focused on hydrogen and ammonia fuels, electric and methanol propulsion, wind-assisted technologies, and shore power infrastructure will be the focus for investment. “We’re committing almost half [...]

H2-View News: Oxford nanoSystems shifts focus to electrolyser test stations following acquisition

The Oxford University spin-out develops high-surface-area coatings and characterisation technology for electrolysers. However, under Hodgson, the former Chief Technology Officer at James Cropper, the company plans to double down on its electrolyser test stations and hardware solution, particularly for alkaline and anion exchange membrane (AEM) applications. Dr. David Hodgson © TFP Hydrogen Products “ONS offers state-of-the-art test stations,” explained Hodgson. “Our focus will be on advancing this segment of the green hydrogen sector, providing material and process developers with essential tools for performance characterisation. Additionally, strategic partnerships will be a “major focus” for the firm moving forward. Partnerships will accelerate [...]

H2-View News: Jordan and China to explore $1.15bn green hydrogen plant for ammonia exports

Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China’s United Energy Group (UEG) to conduct a feasibility study. The technical assessment will examine land requirements, outline project phases, and prioritise strategies to lower production costs. H2 View understands that the proposed facility aims to produce 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year for export. It’s planned to use desalinated seawater and renewable energy produced in Jordan. Jordan’s Energy Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said the project supports the country’s clean energy transition plans. Jordan is aiming for a 31% share of renewables in its total [...]

H2-View News: Germany backs calls to relax EU green hydrogen criteria

The “strict definition” of green hydrogen at the EU level must be “dismantled and replaced by pragmatic criteria,” according to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). “We need to create clarity,” the BMWE said. “The current electrolyser expansion targets will be replaced by flexible targets that are based on concrete projects on the demand side in Germany. Infrastructure projects are started immediately as needed.” Germany’s push to relax EU green hydrogen rules comes alongside a new government monitoring report, which sets out 10 targets to “become climate neutral and remain competitive.” The report warns that strict [...]

H2-View News: North America’s ‘first’ hydrogen passenger train enters service in California

The new Stadler-made hybrid hydrogen fuel cell-battery train will operate on a nine-mile route between San Bernardino and Redlands University on up to 16 trips per day. San Bernardino County Transport Authority (SBCTA) marked the launch by offering free metro rides in the city on its first day of service. Manufactured in 2024, the train has undergone testing to ensure compliance with Metrolink systems and guidelines set by the Federal Railroad Administration. The train is based on Stadler’s Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train (FLIRT) design to offer up to 380 miles of range with a maximum speed of 79mph. [...]
