H2-View News: Clean energy projects drive 40% of Air Liquide’s investment backlog

Air Liquide has revealed that over half of its €4.6bn ($5.3bn) investment backlog is linked to hydrogen and the energy transition, with €2.3bn ($2.6bn) in new investments approved in the first half of 2025. Air Liquide Group CEO François Jackow described the investment backlog – over 40% of which is tied to energy transition projects – as a “new record.” Representing a 39% increase compared to H1 2024, the €2.3bn of investments include the development of large low-carbon hydrogen electrolysers in France and the Netherlands. H2-View News: Symbio seeks compensation after Stellantis axes hydrogen programme

Newly appointed CEO Jean-Baptiste Lucas said the automaker’s sudden exit from hydrogen fuel cell development came as a “shock” to Symbio’s 640 employees. The company had scaled up rapidly to meet anticipated demand, including opening a 50,000-unit-per-year gigafactory in Lyon, France. Stellantis became a one-third shareholder in Symbio in 2023 alongside Michelin and Forvia, aiming to support the rollout of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) across Europe. That vision has now collapsed. Symbio’s other co-owners, Michelin and Forvia, say they were only officially informed of Stellantis’ withdrawal in May. Forvia posted a €269m ($311m) net loss in H1 2025, with [...]

H2-View News: German-Canadian €400m green hydrogen tender enters consultation phase

Under the programme, which is part of H2Global, each government will contribute up to €200m ($230m) to cover the cost gap between the price of green hydrogen production and what buyers in Germany are currently willing to pay. The hydrogen must be certified as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) under EU rules — a mandatory requirement to qualify for public support through H2Global. While the H2Global Foundation will administer the mechanism, its bespoke bilateral structure means the auction is restricted to Canadian producers and German buyers, and, unlike earlier tenders, Canada will co-fund the scheme, rather than Germany acting [...]

Hydrogen Council News: Global Governments and Industry Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Developing International Hydrogen and Derivatives Supply Chains

ROTTERDAM, May 21, 2025 – Ministers and senior government officials from prospective importing and exporting countries, together with global industry leaders, reaffirmed their joint commitment to accelerating the development of international hydrogen and derivatives supply chains during a high-level public-private Roundtable held on the sidelines of the World Hydrogen Summit 2025. The latest gathering of the International Hydrogen Trade Forum (IHTF) held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, brought together high-level government representatives from nearly a dozen governments and a delegation of global industry leaders from the Hydrogen Council, led by its Co-Chair Jaehoon Chang, Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group. H2-View News: HydePoint and Nel partner on offshore and nearshore hydrogen production systems

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies aim to co-develop robust configurations capable of delivering reliable performance under demanding conditions. “HydePoint brings a highly innovative approach to marine-based hydrogen systems,” Todd Cartwright, Chief Commercial Officer at Nel said. “We see strong alignment between our PEM technology and HydePoint’s ambition to deliver resilient, modular solutions for the global clean energy transition.” Last year, HydePoint announced it would collaborate with Norwegian Hydrogen to deliver 10-40MW dockside and nearshore hydrogen projects in Europe. However, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the agreement with Nel would build upon this collaboration. Offshore hydrogen production [...]

H2-View News: ABO Energy signs preliminary deal to develop hydrogen hub in Finland

Whilst only a preliminary plan, the development will take place in 2-3 phases, with the first planned to be operational around 2034-2036. Additionally, ABO will explore the possibility of producing methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) in Oulu – however, this will depend on the availability of biogenic carbon dioxide. The company would offer the waste heat generated for use as district heating in the region. ABO Energy Suomi Oy, owned by ABO Energy KGaA, will implement the plant in the industrial area of Pyyryväinen. As the land reservation is only a preliminary decision, a final investment decision (FID) will [...]

H2-View News: Sierra Northern Railway completes hydrogen-powered locomotive testing in California

Undertaken in West Sacramento, California, last month, the testing was backed by a $4m grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) which funded the design, integration and demonstration. The ‘switcher’ will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells and batteries for use in rail yards to move freight cars. Sera has stated the demonstration validates the locomotive’s use for short lines – key parts of the freight network used for local deliveries. By the end of 2027, Sera will build three more hydrogen locomotives using nearly $20m in new funding. “Sierra’s successful test proves that short lines can retire pre-tier 0 [...]

H2-View News: CF Industries, Jera, Mitsui form JV for $4bn blue ammonia plant in US

US-based CF will own 40%, Jera 35%, and Mitsui 25%. CF will operate and maintain the plant in Ascension Parish, while all three will have a stake in offtaking the blue ammonia product. The greenfield autothermal reforming (ATR) ammonia plant with an equipped carbon capture unit is estimated to cost $4bn, with the three partners funding the development based on their ownership percentage of the JV. CF says it will invest around $550m – separate from the $4bn plant cost – to build and operate “scalable infrastructure” at the Blue Point site for ammonia storage and loading. The plant is [...]
