H2-View News: Why Air Products is going ahead with its ‘underperforming’ Alberta hydrogen plant
Customer contracts and hopes of onboarding new offtakers are keeping Air Products committed to building its delayed, over-budget net-zero hydrogen energy complex in Alberta, Canada. The Alberta project was announced in 2021 with a price tag of $1.3bn and a 2024 start-up date. H2-View News: BP Jera JV commissions hydrogen refuelling station to support offshore wind operations
The 50:50 offshore wind joint venture between Japan’s Jera and BP said the Ostend Hydrogen Refuelling Station will store and dispense green hydrogen produced by Lhyfe in France and Germany. Beginning its demonstration phase this year, the facility will refuel Windcat’s hydrogen-powered crew transfer vessel, the Hydrocat 48, and has the capacity to serve “several vessels daily.” Engineering manufacturing firm Haskel led the construction of the facility, with support through the EU-funded Implementation of Ship Hybridisation (ISHY) programme. “Research and innovation are at the heart of how we approach the full life cycle of offshore wind projects,” explained Kristof Verlinden, Head of Global [...]
H2-View News: Will the EU’s €2.9bn STIP plan move the needle on hydrogen-based fuels?
The European Commission’s Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP) has pledged over €2.9bn ($3.3bn) to decarbonise aviation and shipping with hydrogen-based and other low-carbon fuels. Part of the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal (CID), the plan is designed to unlock private investment and help both sectors switch from fossil fuels to hydrogen, ammonia, and e-fuels to meet 2035 ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime targets. H2-View News: Masdar buys stake in Austria’s largest green hydrogen project
The plant, which is already being constructed at OMV’s Schwechat refinery, is expected to come online in 2027 to replace volumes of grey hydrogen already used at the site. Under the new joint venture, OMV will look to lean on Masdar’s commercial and financial strength in developing and operating clean energy projects. Pending shareholder and regulatory approvals, the joint venture will close in early 2026. It builds off a 2023 heads of terms agreement between the pair to explore using green hydrogen to clean up OMV’s refinery assets. OMV took final investment decision on the project in May, claiming it [...]
H2-View News: Air Products sees potential path forward for paused Louisiana blue hydrogen project
Air Products believes it could still proceed with its paused $4.5bn blue hydrogen plant in Louisiana, US, according to its CEO. Speaking during the industrial gas firm’s Q4 results, Eduardo Menezes said although the development would not go ahead without an offtake agreement, there may be a way to make the project bankable. The Louisiana development was announced in 2021 with plans to produce up to 1,700 tonnes of blue hydrogen per day and convert it into ammonia. H2-View News: Cummins to undertake ‘strategic review’ of electrolyser business
While sales in Accelera rose 10% year-on-year to $121m, the division posted an EBITDA loss of $336m. The $240m non-cash charge, equal to $1.73 per diluted share, contributed to a fall in company-wide net income to $536m, down from $809m in 2024. The American engine manufacturer said the Accelera non-cash charges reflected “policy-driven shifts in hydrogen adoption expectations.” It added in its Q3 2025 earnings statement, “Due to the significantly weaker prospects for demand, we are undertaking a strategic review of the electrolyser business.” Chair and CEO Jennifer Rumsey said that while “uncertainty in a number of our end markets persists,” the quarter’s results [...]
H2-View News: Transition Industries signs long-term offtake deal for low-carbon methanol plant
Under the offtake agreement, the Japanese multinational will be supplied with around one million tonnes of green and blue methanol per year from Mexico, which Transition described as “ultra-low carbon.” MGC Chemical Division Director, Masahiko Naito, said the agreement will strengthen the company’s Carbopath initiative, which “drives carbon circularity across multiple industries.” Naito added, “By ensuring a stable supply of ultra-low carbon methanol, we will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the transition toward a more sustainable society in Japan and in the broader Asia-Pacific region.” The agreement will become effective upon the project’s final investment decision (FID). H2-View News: Samsung E&A unveils PEM version of 100MW hydrogen plant, built on Nel stacks
Like its alkaline alternative, the CompassH2-P combines Nel’s stack technology with a Samsung E&A system-level design to produce 30-bar hydrogen. The South Korean EPC firm said the plant design would be optimised for handling renewable energy load fluctuations and could ease project development. The alkaline CompassH2-A was launched in May, claiming to offer the “world’s most efficient” alkaline solution. No details on either plant’s capex or system-level performance have been disclosed. Both systems come after Samsung E&A became Nel’s largest corporate shareholder and EPC partner to sell complete plants based on the Norwegian OEM’s technology. Samsung E&A President and CEO [...]
H2-View News: Explosion causes ammonia leak at CF Industries Mississippi plant
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves confirmed the incident in a post on X. “Initial reports indicate the leak is due to an explosion. At this time, no deaths or injuries have been reported,” he said. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality last night said air monitoring operations are underway and will continue as long as necessary to ensure public safety. Anhydrous ammonia is primarily used to produce fertilisers and provides the highest nitrogen content of any fertiliser type. The CF Industries Yazoo City complex has an annual ammonia production capacity of about 570,000 tonnes, with 48,000 tonnes of storage. It remains [...]
H2-View News: ZeroAvia awarded €21.4m through EU Innovation Fund
Funding was financed through revenues from the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The latest round awarded grants to 61 Net Zero projects across 19 sectors and 18 countries. ZeroAvia was one of 13 hydrogen-related projects selected for a share of €2.9bn ($3.1bn). The ODIN initiative will validate the technical performance and economic case for hydrogen-powered commercial aviation operations. Once ZeroAvia’s ZA600 fuel cell powertrains are integrated into the aircraft, operations are set to begin in 2028. Additionally, the UK-based aviator plans to deliver hydrogen refuelling and storage infrastructure at 15 airports in Norway to [...]
