H2-View News: SunHydrogen demonstrates off-grid, commercial-scale solar hydrogen system

Operating for the first time under real-world conditions, the company’s module combines light-harvesting and electrolysis functions into a single unit, rather than using separate photovoltaic panels and an electrolyser. The demonstration took place in an open prototype housing facility, likely near SunHydrogen’s base in Coralville, Iowa, though the company did not confirm the exact location. The demonstration proved that sunlight and water can progress beyond the laboratory to become a “commercially viable clean energy solution,” according to Syed Mubeen, Ph.D, Chief Technology Officer at SunHydrogen. “This successful demonstration of the commercial-size reactor underscores the progress we’ve made in bringing our [...]

H2-View News: Cost cuts lift Plug Power’s margins as Q2 electrolyser revenues treble

Plug Power trebled its electrolyser revenues in Q2 while improving its gross margin by almost 60 points thanks to major cost reductions. The US hydrogen firm logged $174m in total revenues, up 21% year-on-year, with its electrolyser business contributing around $45m. H2-View News: Subsidies ‘rarely’ the deciding factor in hydrogen bankability: Ryze Power

Subsidies alone won’t unlock clean hydrogen projects. Guaranteed offtake, market alignment, and infrastructure all need to come together. That was the message from H2 View’s latest exclusive webinar, which heard Ryze Power’s Head of Policy and Strategic Projects, Dr Lee Roberts, tell viewers the mindset was changing on project development. H2-View News: Vattenfall and CIP delay and scale back 1GW Dutch hydrogen project

The project’s onshore hydrogen plant will now be at least 500MW, down from 1GW, and its offshore solar commitment reduced to 6MW The IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore wind farm, which will supply power to the project, will also now be built in two phases: 1GW coming online in 2029 and the remaining 1GW in 2032, after the delayed Delta Rhine Corridor (DRC) hydrogen pipeline is completed. Zeevonk, the joint venture developing the project, said the original plans are no longer financially or economically viable under the current permit because of the DRC delay, which was originally slated for commissioning in [...]

H2-View News: PowerChina starts trial operations at 20MW green hydrogen facility in Uzbekistan

Located at the Maxam chemical plant in Uzbekistan’s capital, the facility uses four alkaline electrolyser units with a combined capacity of 20MW, together producing around 3,150 tonnes of hydrogen per year. Representing PowerChina’s first overseas green hydrogen venture, the production plant is replacing grey hydrogen currently used at the Maxam site, cutting around 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. “The project represents a key milestone in advancing green, low-carbon energy transformation across central Asia and beyond,” PowerChina said in a statement. The initiative also reflects China’s growing global hydrogen ambitions. In May 2024, the Hydrogen Council reported that the country [...]

H2-View News: Hyroad acquires Nikola’s hydrogen trucks, stations, and IP after bankruptcy

US hydrogen refuelling firm has acquired over 100 fuel trucks, parts, software, and IP from the bankrupt zero-emission truck maker Nikola. The Texan firm said the acquisition included 113 Tre hydrogen fuel cell trucks, which will be deployed primarily in California, where it is developing its first hydrogen refuelling stations. H2-View News: Hynfra leads Polish–Japanese SOEC project to deliver green ammonia

Starting in early 2026, the demonstrator will produce high-efficiency green hydrogen for low-carbon ammonia synthesis, using waste heat from the Haber–Bosch process to power the SOEC in a closed-loop system. Hynfra CEO Tomoho Umeda said operating at 700–900°C enables the capture and reuse of heat from ammonia synthesis, delivering high efficiencies. Under the MOU, the partners also plan to build a larger SOEC-based, megawatt-scale hydrogen facility to supply green hydrogen to industrial chemical and fertiliser plants worldwide. Umeda said, “This is a decisive step toward making green hydrogen a practical, scalable solution for the chemical and fertiliser industries, while keeping [...]

H2-View News: H2 View webinar: can low-level blending unlock early hydrogen scale?

Industry experts are divided over the role of hydrogen blending, raising questions over whether it’s a pragmatic enabler of early investment or a costly distraction from dedicated infrastructure. Last month, the UK government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) launched a consultation to assess the benefits and risks of allowing up to 2% hydrogen blending into the National Transmission System (NTS). And while DESNZ sees blending as an “offtaker of last resort” to help manage grid constraints and derisk hydrogen investment, Lhyfe’s Boris Davis said during a H2 View webinar that the strategy offers clear short-term value. This [...]

H2-View News: China’s Sungrow Hydrogen plans electrolyser production in Oman

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with United Engineering Services (UES) sets the stage for Sungrow to manufacture and assemble its electrolysers, gas separation, and purification systems in the Sultanate. While the intended factory’s output has not been disclosed, the systems produced in Oman will be aimed at meeting local demand as well as export markets. Sungrow currently makes both alkaline and PEM systems. Oman has looked to establish itself as a key green hydrogen producer and exporter, with its state-backed company Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) allocating land for eight projects with a combined 1.2 million tonnes of annual capacity. It [...]

H2-View News: Linde and Mainzer Stadtwerke to upgrade 10-year-old hydrogen plant

The German facility, which was launched in 2015, has been using wind power to produce green hydrogen. Linde claimed it was the first large-scale project to use excess renewable energy and convert it into hydrogen. Under the extension agreement, the partners plan to develop Mainz Energy Park 2.0 on the same site, replacing the decade-old Siemens PEM electrolysers with modern units delivering 5MW of capacity, H2 View understands. The existing hydrogen refuelling station will also be upgraded. The whole project will reportedly be supported with €2.5m ($2.9m) from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMV). The two companies [...]
