Located at the Maxam chemical plant in Uzbekistan’s capital, the facility uses four alkaline electrolyser units with a combined capacity of 20MW, together producing around 3,150 tonnes of hydrogen per year. US hydrogen refuelling firm has acquired over 100 fuel trucks, parts, software, and IP from the bankrupt zero-emission truck maker Nikola. The Texan firm said the acquisition included 113 Tre hydrogen fuel cell trucks, which will be deployed primarily in California, where it is developing its first hydrogen refuelling stations. Starting in early 2026, the demonstrator will produce high-efficiency green hydrogen for low-carbon ammonia synthesis, using waste heat from the Haber–Bosch process to power the SOEC in a closed-loop system. Industry experts are divided over the role of hydrogen blending, raising questions over whether it’s a pragmatic enabler of early investment or a costly distraction from dedicated infrastructure. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with United Engineering Services (UES) sets the stage for Sungrow to manufacture and assemble its electrolysers, gas separation, and purification systems in the Sultanate. While the intended factory’s output has not been disclosed, the systems produced in Oman will be aimed at meeting local demand as well as export markets.
