H2-View News: Hydrogen stuck in pilot phase as costs rise and demand lags, says ING
Hydrogen’s push toward commercial scale has stalled, with rising costs and weak offtake keeping the sector stuck in the pilot phase, according to ING. In its 2026 outlook, ING argues that clean hydrogen will require a “multi-stage process” unfolding over several decades to become a mainstream commodity. Despite industry advocates highlighting commercial traction, the bank said, “It has largely reverted to the pilot phase, especially for green hydrogen.” This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.
H2-View News: ARENA backs studies for 26GW green hydrogen, iron, ammonia project in the Pilbara
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) funds will be used for technical, economic, and regulatory progress on ICE’s Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), which aims to combine 26GW of renewables to produce 1.6 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The studies funded by ARENA will focus on the project’s green hydrogen production at Boodarie near Port Hedland and supply to industry, as well as environmental and social considerations. It gives a new boost to the development after oil and gas major BP pulled out of the scheme amid its reset back toward fossil fuels. CEO of the AREH project [...]
H2-View News: Italy transposes RED III with full green hydrogen mandates for industry and transport
EU-set green hydrogen mandates for transport and industry are set to come into force in Italy on Wednesday (4 February), after the country transposed the rules into national law. The Legislative Decree 5/2026 will enter into force and implement the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) to accelerate and simplify renewable energy installations across Italy. H2-View News: Exxon pulled into antitrust fight over blue ammonia access to CO2 pipeline
ExxonMobil and its Denbury carbon capture unit are facing an expanded antitrust and unfair competition lawsuit in Texas, after a blue ammonia developer alleged the companies leveraged control over a carbon dioxide pipeline to cut off a rival project. The suit, filed by start-up Clean Hydrogen Works, has added ExxonMobil as a defendant, alleging that after Exxon acquired CO2-enhanced oil recovery firm Denbury, the oil and gas major forced Denbury to break existing agreements with it. H2-View News: Liquid hydrogen leak stops Artemis II rehearsal
Nasa stopped the countdown at the launchpad in Florida five minutes ahead of a test ‘launch’, following a hydrogen leak from a connection linking the launch tower to the rocket, which can hold three million litres of hydrogen and oxygen. “The Artemis II wet dress rehearsal countdown was terminated at the T-5:15 minute mark due to a liquid hydrogen leak at the interface of the tail service mast umbilical, which had experienced high concentrations of liquid hydrogen earlier in the countdown as well,” a Nasa statement reads. During tanking, Nasa engineers spent “several hours” troubleshooting a liquid hydrogen leak in an interface [...]
H2-View News: Hyundai aims for US east coast hydrogen truck deployments
Under the deal with Hyundai Translead, Hendrickson will act as a commercial vehicle dealer in New York and New Jersey, offering sales, servicing, and infrastructure support for South Korean OEM’s Xcient Fuel Cell trucks. The announcement did not specify the number of trucks that are likely to be rolled out by the deal, nor the details on the supporting hydrogen infrastructure. However, Hendrickson’s Vice-President of EV Strategy, Chance Parker, said the deal represented a “game-changing commitment to decarbonising more fleet operations in the NYC metro area and beyond.” Unlike the comparative US hydrogen mobility hotspot in California, the East Coast’s [...]
H2-View News: MB Energy opens German hydrogen refuelling station
Situated in Lübeck at an existing MB Energy diesel refuelling station near the A1 and A20 motorways, the station could fuel 50 trucks per-day. Delivered by German project developer Hypion, it comes as MB Energy’s third station in Europe. The Lübeck site will operate as part of the Tankpool24 truck refuelling network, comprised of over 2,000 stations – covering diesel, LNG, and hydrogen – across Europe including more than 750 in Germany. MB Energy has not identified the exact source of hydrogen for the station. The Lübeck station was supported by a €5.1m ($5.5m) grant awarded under the German Government’s [...]
H2-View News: German partners eye offtake from 4.4GW Saudi green hydrogen plant
A newly inked memorandum of understanding (MOU) could see Acwa supply green ammonia from its Yanbu project to EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg (ENBW), with VNG supporting European imports. Under the plans, ammonia would be cracked into hydrogen at Germany’s Port of Rostock by VNG before being distributed through the country’s 9,000km hydrogen core network. In a statement, the company said it is “evaluating the potential for its participation in the co-development and possible co-investment in ammonia infrastructure in Germany.” The Yanbu green hydrogen project, planned for commercial operation in 2030, will combine 10GW of wind and solar power, and 4.4GW of [...]
H2-View News: US hydrogen firm Plug urges shareholders to back share issuance changes
It comes as the company looks to build up cash reserves as it continues to burn cash. In a blog post addressed to investors, outgoing CEO Andy Marsh framed the vote as a necessary step to keep the company operating smoothly, arguing the firm’s proposed amendments are being blocked by low voter participation. Plug has offered two proposals that would give it significantly more power in raising capital through equity issuance. The first would amend its corporate charter to “modernise” its voting standards. Under current rules, certain charter amendments require approval from a majority of all outstanding shares, meaning shares [...]
H2-View News: First 32km stretch of Dutch hydrogen network filled with green hydrogen
Laid in the Port of Rotterdam by Dutch state-owned Gasunie, the first section was filled with green hydrogen supplied by Plug Power from a production site in northern Germany. “It was quite a challenging process,” Dutch hydrogen network manager Niels van Pagee said. “Within a short time span and under a tight deadline, dozens of trailers carrying containers full of green hydrogen had to make their way from northern Germany to the Maasvlakte industrial area near Rotterdam, where we had set up a temporary filling site.” It marks the completion of the firm segment of the planned 1,200km nationwide network, [...]
