H2-View News: Topsoe wins solid oxide FEED contract for CNF’s e-SAF plant
The Danish technology firm signed a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) agreement based on its solid oxide electrolysers. 120MW of renewable energy capacity will power Topsoe’s systems. Hydrogen produced at the site in Workington will then be turned into 25,000 tonnes of e-SAF per year. Backed with £6m by the UK government through its Advanced Fuels Fund, Project Starling is currently in its engineering design phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2028, followed by the first operations in 2031. Both decisions depend on a final investment decision (FID) from CNF. However, once the plant is running, it could cut [...]
H2-View News: Yara green ammonia deal ‘eliminates’ Air Products’ Neom offtake volume risk: CEO
Yara and Air Products’ potential deal, which would see the fertiliser firm sell green ammonia from the 2.2GW Neom green hydrogen plant, will eliminate Air Products’ volume risk associated with its sole offtaker role. That was the message from CEO Eduardo Menezes to investors in a quick-response teleconference to the industrial gas major’s announcement earlier on Monday (8 December). Under the deal, which was said to be “advanced”, the pair are “anticipating” entering a marketing and distribution agreement that would see Yara offtake green ammonia from the Saudi mega project. H2-View News: BASF to supply hydrogen-based ammonia to OCI’s Geleen fertiliser plant
While delivery volumes have not been disclosed, BASF’s renewable ammonia is certified under ISCC PLUS, which uses a mass balance method to verify its sustainability. Under this system, the product is allocated a renewable share through certified accounting rather than being produced entirely from green hydrogen. The BASF deliveries are expected to add to OCI’s new line of fertilisers called “Pure,” which are made with lower-carbon hydrogen or ammonia instead of traditional fossil-based feedstocks. The agreement with the German chemical firm comes as OCI continues to reshape its ammonia portfolio, having divested several major assets and placed its Geleen facility [...]
H2-View News: Hystar and McDermott to develop 100MW PEM electrolyser plant
Under the agreement, Hystar will combine its hydrogen production technology with McDermott’s expertise as a global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) provider. While details on the plant are thin, the two companies aim to develop a full facility reference design which has been “optimised for scalability, flexibility, safety, and cost efficiency.” In its statement, Hystar said the McDermott deal is designed to “offer customers an integrated, ready-to-deploy plant architecture that reduces technical risk, simplifies procurement and shortens time to market.” Hystar CEO Fredrik Mowill explained, “Working with McDermott ensures that Hystar’s leading PEM technology can be scaled efficiently and deployed [...]
H2-View News: Bill Gates-backed methane pyrolysis firm Modern Hydrogen has ‘shut down’
US methane pyrolysis firm Modern Hydrogen has gone bust, despite a string of recent deployment plans and claims of a policy-proof business model. Messages from employees, seen by H2 View, suggested that the Washington-based technology player had “shut down”. H2-View News: Itochu to help drive market demand for NH3’s Australian ammonia project
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Japanese conglomerate will work to identify shipping customers, ports and routes that can generate demand for the project at the Port of Dampier. NH3 will also be positioned as a supply source for Itochu’s planned ammonia bunkering hubs in Japan and Singapore, helping to meet an aggregated 300,000 tonnes per year of demand across Asia-Pacific shipping markets. Securing credible demand is expected to be one of the biggest hurdles to NH3 taking a final investment decision (FID) on the project in late 2026. “Itochu have consistently demonstrated its desire to be a leader [...]
H2-View News: Air Products nears Yara deal to advance Louisiana blue hydrogen and Neom sales
The Louisiana project had funding paused in May after the industrial gas major’s new management team looked to de-risk it by handing off the downstream carbon capture and ammonia synthesis elements. Investors had previously questioned whether the project overstretched Air Products’ capital allocation and risk profile, as carbon capture and ammonia synthesis typically sit outside its business model. Now, however, the company believes it could take a final investment decision by mid-2026, with the project coming online by 2030. Yara could take on ammonia production, storage, and shipping facilities – accounting for around 25% of total project costs, now estimated [...]
H2-View News: Scotland’s largest CCS project faces fresh uncertainty as partner seeks sale
Doubts over the viability of Scotland’s largest carbon capture project have been raised after a key partner in the development, Storegga, wants to sell its interest in the Acorn CCS project. A Storegga spokesperson said the decision comes as it is progressing a structured sales process for its portfolio of assets. “With Acorn approaching a more capital-intensive phase, and with both the UK and Scottish Governments signalling the importance of its timely delivery, we have concluded that a new long-term owner would be better placed to take the project forward. This step reflects the intentions of our existing shareholders, who [...]
H2-View News: Tidal power-to-hydrogen production demo completed in Orkney
The trial, led by European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), saw an O2 tidal turbine, vanadium flow batteries, and a 670kW PEM electrolyser installed at an onshore test site on the island of Eday in Orkney. During periods of high tidal generation, power was used to charge the battery system, supply electricity directly to the electrolyser, and export power to the grid. When generation was low, the battery system discharged power to keep the electrolyser running. The project was launched in 2020, and received funding from both the EU and the Scottish Government. EMEC claimed the approach “smoothed out” the cyclical [...]
H2-View News: Scotland’s largest CCS project faces fresh uncertainty as partner exits: reports
Doubts over the viability of Scotland’s largest carbon capture project have been raised after a key partner in the development, Storegga, withdrew, according to media reports. Storegga is understood to be looking at selling its key stake in the project after a review of its business, capital requirements and future structure. H2 View has approached the company for comment. The facility, which secured £200m ($266m) in government funding this year, is due to be built by Storegga, Shell, Harbour Energy, and North Sea Midstream Partners at the St Fergus Gas Terminal near Peterhead, north of Aberdeen. This is a paid [...]
