H2-View News: Lawmakers urge US DOE to reverse Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub funding cut
Fifteen Democratic lawmakers from Washington and Oregon have demanded the US Department of Energy (DOE) reverse its termination of funding for the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub (PNWH2), calling the decision “unacceptable” and “unlawful.” In a letter to Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the Representatives and Senators warned the move jeopardised US manufacturing jobs and private investment. H2-View News: How many OEMs will survive China’s electrolyser shakeout?
Around 70% of China’s electrolyser manufacturers could disappear as fierce competition and plunging prices drive market consolidation, according to Energy Iceberg founder Yuki Yu. Yu told a H2 View webinar the Chinese electrolyser market was a “song of ice and fire,” with projects now moving from paper to the final investment decision (FID) stage. H2-View News: Stegra launches €975m funding round to complete hydrogen-based steel plant
The Swedish company announced today (October 13) that the proceeds from the round are expected to represent up to 15% of its total project funding. Last year, Stegra secured up to €6.5bn ($$7.15bn) to develop the plant. The new capital will help offset higher construction costs, fund a three-month project extension, and replace state grants approved by the European Commission but not yet disbursed by the Swedish government. The round will comprise a mix of equity, debt, outsourcing, and strategic partnerships. H2 View understands that initial commitments have already been made by lead investors, with Stegra also in advanced discussions over [...]
H2-View News: ACME Group inks 10-year green iron supply deal with Vietnam’s Stavian
The agreement, exclusive to the Southeast Asian market, will see Acme supply green hot briquetted iron (HBI) and direct reduced iron (DRI). The deal is described as “take-or-pay/supply,” meaning Stavian must buy the agreed volume even if it doesn’t use it. The Indian clean energy company will supply the hydrogen-derived materials from its planned 1.2 million tonne-per-year green HBI/DRI facility (Phase 1), estimated to cost around ₹5,000 crore ($600m). A final offtake agreement will follow the binding terms. Stavian Industrial Metal, part of the wider Stavian Group, operates a 20,000-partner metals network across 100 countries and aims to lead Vietnam’s [...]
H2-View News: GM and Honda end joint fuel cell development for hydrogen vehicles
In an attempt to “sharpen its focus on technologies that show the clearest path to scale and customer value,” GM and its partner Honda have ended production and reportedly scrapped plans to construct a $55m plant in Detroit. Instead of advancing the development of its Hydrotec brand, GM will concentrate R&D and capital resources on batteries, charging technologies, and electric vehicles (EVs). “[These] have clear market traction, rather than on hydrogen, which has yet to fulfil its potential,” the firm said in a statement. However, through the joint venture (JV) Fuel Cell System Manufacturing LLC, GM will continue to produce [...]
H2-View News: Centrica and National Gas complete 2% hydrogen blend at power plant
While previous hydrogen trials were confined to decommissioned sections of the National Transmission System (NTS), the test at Centrica’s facility in north Lincolnshire marks the UK’s first live demonstration. After the hydrogen was injected, it was blended with natural gas and delivered to the Brigg Power Station, where it was combusted in gas turbines to produce electricity for the national power grid. Previously, Centrica and HiiROC partnered to trial hydrogen blending at the Brigg site, utilising hydrogen produced on-site and blended into the station’s own gas feed. Typically operating for less than three hours a day, the 240MW gas-fired peaking [...]
H2-View News: China’s Longi joins OEMs standardising electrolyser plants to cut EPC costs
The company’s HyBlock system looks to shift more integration work to the factory, easing on-site workload and simplifying project execution to make large projects faster to build, easier to manage, and cheaper. It claims the standardised, prefabricated plant could deliver up to 35% savings in capital spending and cut lead times by 40%. “Installation work can be reduced by approximately 65%, with fewer interfaces and higher parallel efficiency – helping customers overcome long-standing barriers in cost, complexity, and time,” Longi said. The platform follows suit of other major electrolyser OEMs attempting to cut project EPC costs for customers. The likes [...]
H2-View News: Liquid Wind awarded €3.6M to advance hydrogen-based methanol project
The Swedish Energy Agency awarded the financial support under Industriklivet, a government programme aimed at helping industries reduce carbon emissions. Liquid Wind’s facility is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of e-fuel per year by combining green hydrogen and biogenic CO2. The plant will also link with Övik Energi’s biofuel-powered CHP facility to form an efficient, circular energy system. They aim to cut 200,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually through the plant, which will help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, aviation, and chemicals. “[The funding] represents a strong commitment from the Swedish government that not only accelerates the transition to [...]
H2-View News: Cost and simplicity to define the next phase of electrolyser manufacturing
The electrolyser sector’s next phase of deployment will hinge on cost reduction, modular design, and closer supply chain collaboration, marking a shift towards greater pragmatism across the industry. That was according to James Cropper’s Dr David Hodgson, Dr Daniel Gröbel of Hoerbiger, and Ohmium’s Paul Dainora during H2 View’s exclusive webinar. As the sector moves to commercial-scale, innovation priorities are cost, reliability, and collaboration. However, while capacity is increasing, investment decisions are slowing. H2-View News: Scottish hydrogen heating trial will ‘raise energy bills,’ says energy group
While the government-backed programme is set to go live this year, the independent group warned it will drive up UK energy bills and argued hydrogen should be reserved for industrial use. The project will see around 300 homes in Fife switch to hydrogen for heating, hot water, and cooking, representing the UK’s only remaining residential hydrogen trial after pilots in Whitby and Redcar were cancelled. Residents are being offered £1,000 and new appliances to take part. The HSC noted that the trial is taking place in one of Scotland’s most deprived communities, adding that Buckhaven residents have “not been given [...]
