H2-View News: Charbone delivers first green hydrogen from flagship Quebec plant
Marking the start of revenue generation for the firm, it comes just weeks after the firm commissioned the first 2.25MW phase of its Sorel-Tracy project near Montreal. The delivery falls under a five-year supply agreement signed in October. However, the end-use, delivery volumes and pricing have not been disclosed to “preserve its competitive position.” The plant uses 100% grid power composed entirely of hydroelectric energy to power the Cummins-made alkaline electrolyser from a former Quebec hydrogen refuelling site. At its current capacity, the project will produce up to 328 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Charbone plans to gradually expand [...]
H2-View News: EU-backed fund supports 500,000-tonne Namibian green ammonia plant
Under a funding agreement, Namibian clean investment fund, SDG Namibia One Fund, said it would provide blended finance to complete development and feasibility work through to a 2027 final investment decision. Zhero was founded in 2022 by Marco Alvera, the CEO of green hydrogen-based synthetic methane firm TES. It describes itself as the owner and operator of large-scale renewable energy for green molecule production and energy storage solutions. It currently has no projects under construction or in operation. The project, which is expected to be online by 2030, plans to comprise 3GW of solar, 2.2GW of battery energy storage, 1.6GW [...]
H2-View News: Skovgaard switches on ‘dynamic’ green ammonia demo plant in Denmark
The 5,000-tonnes-per-year plant in Ramme integrates 50MW of new solar capacity, 12MW of existing wind energy, with electrolysis and ammonia synthesis. Developed with Danish technology firm Topsoe and wind turbine maker Vestas, the project is designed to adapt to renewable energy fluctuations, reducing costs by operating without hydrogen storage. In doing so, the group claims the project is the world’s first “dynamic” green ammonia plant. Skovgaard CEO Niels Erik Madsen said it demonstrates the “energy systems of tomorrow”. The project received DKK 81m ($12.7m) in funding from the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program. The partners have not disclosed [...]
H2-View News: Tyczka Hydrogen acquires German refuelling stations from MorGen
The two stations in Giengen an der Brenz, Baden-Württemberg, and Hallstadt, Bavaria, will add to Tyczka’s two under-development sites in Augsburg and Ravensburg, as it looks to ramp up hydrogen demand in the mobility segment. While the acquisition’s value has not been revealed, the company expects to complete the deal in January 2026. Both stations are equipped with 350 and 700 bar dispensing capacity and will undergo upgrades to “enhance performance” for heavy-duty vehicles. The Giengen an der Brenz station opened in May 2024 at the site of a JET Mobility Hub, while the Hallstadt site in the Cleantech Innovation [...]
H2-View News: Mitsui signs MOU to explore investment in AM Green’s low-carbon aluminium project
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sits within AM Green’s wider green hydrogen and power-to-X strategy, where the Indian firm is developing large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects to decarbonise heavy industry. AM Green is planning a one-million-tonnes-per-year primary aluminium shelter alongside two million-tonnes-per-year of alumina refining and mining capacity, to be developed in Andhra Pradesh, India. Mitsui would use the partnership to secure and trade low-carbon aluminium supply, while positioning itself alongside AM Green’s broader hydrogen-led industrial decarbonisation platform. Under the agreement, Mitsui will assess potential equity investment across AM Green’s aluminium value chain, as well as offtake rights and supply [...]
H2-View News: Vinssen bets on composite bipolar plates to cut weight and boost fuel cell durability
Under the deal with ILDO F&C, the duo aims to deliver composite-based lightweight bipolar plates with high corrosion resistance, long-term durability, and customisable surface options, without the need for conductive coatings. Bipolar plates in fuel cells distribute hydrogen and oxygen, conduct electricity and manage heat and water by-products. Typically, they are made from metal sheets with channels machined or etched on. However, the pair claim composite plates could deliver “lower tooling costs, enhanced operability through hydrophilic/hydrophobic options, resistance to degradation caused by metal-ion leaching, and weight reduction.” Vinssen has been focused on developing fuel cell propulsion systems for maritime applications [...]
H2-View News: Sidenor tests green hydrogen for ladle heating at Basauri steel plant
Conducted under its IS2H4C project, the company swapped a conventional gas burner for a hydrogen burner in a ladle heating step at its Basauri steel plant. Sidenor said the hydrogen burner achieved the same temperatures as the conventional process, demonstrating hydrogen’s technical viability in this application. However, Sidenor is yet to announce a full-scale rollout of the technology. Sidenor produces speciality steel at two main steelworks in Spain, located in Basauri and Azkoitia, with additional downstream and forging operations, including a plant in Reinosa. The trial comes as analysts warn that large-scale green steel production remains more than a decade [...]
H2-View News: Verne signs long-term hydrogen supply deal for its California data centres
Under the agreement, Verne will use the proposed hydrogen supply to provide on-site, low-emission power and cooling solutions to its data centre customers. According to the company’s statement, hydrogen production is expected to ramp up to more than 36,000 tonnes per year over the contract, subject to the successful deployment of pilot wells and project development. However, Vema Hydrogen, which is developing engineered mineral hydrogen technologies, is not yet producing hydrogen commercially. The company says its technology can accelerate naturally occurring subsurface reactions to generate hydrogen at scale. It’s currently exploring multiple prospective pilot sites in North America and has [...]
H2-View News: Woodside Energy CEO to become BP chief from April
Carol Howle, current Executive Vice-President, Supply, Trading & Shipping, will serve as interim CEO until April. Auchincloss will serve in an advisory role until December 2026. O’Neill, currently CEO of Woodside Energy, oversaw the acquisition of BHP Petroleum International. Before joining Woodside Energy in 2018, she spent 23 years at ExxonMobil in technical, operational and leadership positions. Albert Manifold, Chair of BP, said her “relentless focus” on business improvement will prepare the multinational firm for its next growth phase. “The board believes this transition creates an opportunity to accelerate our strategic vision to become a simpler, leaner, and more profitable [...]
H2-View News: Greene Tweed targets lower hydrogen pipeline costs with compressor component design
Hydrogen pipeline compression is capital-intensive, with conventional metal impellers limited in how fast they can operate, forcing operators to use multiple compressor stages. Greene Tweed says its composite design could allow a higher compression per stage, reducing equipment size, cost, and maintenance requirements. The US-based manufacturer explained its impeller is made from carbon-fibre-reinforced PEEK, allowing it to reach tip speeds of 688 m/s in testing, almost double those of typical closed metallic impellers. Following initial testing, Greene Tweed is now working with centrifugal compressor OEMs to integrate the design into commercial hydrogen compression systems. “Our goal was to create a [...]
