H2-View News: Tokyo Gas looks to plasma-based methane splitting in hydrogen push

The pair have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to assess, using HiiRoc’s plasma-based technology to decarbonise Tokyo Gas customers’ operations and explore potential uses for solid carbon. HiiRoc’s thermal plasma electrolysis (TPE) technology operates similarly to methane pyrolysis. However, the company uses electrical plasma torches, rather than heat, to split hydrocarbons into high-pressure hydrogen and solid carbon. It claims the system can produce hydrogen as cheaply as steam methane reforming without the need for carbon capture, while requiring less energy than electrolysis. Under the partnership, the duo said they will “collaborate” on HiiRoc’s TPE technology in Japan, with the [...]

H2-View News: Norsk e-Fuel secures €150m Finnish tax credit for aviation fuel project

The support will be provided to Norsk e-Fuel’s Finnish subsidiary Norsk e-Fuel Rauma Oy, which is developing a 100 million-litre green hydrogen-based e-fuel facility on Finland’s west coast. Rauma will use renewable energy to produce green hydrogen, which will be synthesised with captured carbon dioxide into aviation e-fuels. The support mechanism comes in the form of tax deductions over a period of up to 19 tax years once the project is operational to help reduce operating costs. Norsk e-Fuel said the tax credit decision “significantly strengthened” the project’s bankability, and would make it more attractive for future offtakers and financial [...]

H2-View News: Stadwerke Bielefeld selects PEM system to supply fuel cell bus fleet

The group is due to receive the electrolyser system from Italy’s IMI, which will supply green hydrogen to an existing refuelling station at the site. Stadtwerke opened the Innovation Park last year to support hybrid fuel cell-battery buses operated by Bielefeld-based transit firm moBiel. The buses can either be recharged directly by the site’s 27 charging points or refuelled with hydrogen. Business Development Manager for IMI Vivo electrolysers, Dr Cornelia Neumann, said Stadtwerke’s facility was a “model” for other municipalities and operators struggling with grid capacity limits. A timeline for bringing the electrolyser system online has not been disclosed. While [...]

H2-View News: Dutch project plans first green hydrogen-powered cremation in 2026

Crematoria Twente has launched a research and demonstration project to assess whether green hydrogen could be a sustainable and feasible alternative to natural gas, to inform potential wider deployment. The firm will adapt an existing furnace at its Enschede crematorium to run on green hydrogen, beginning with controlled testing before any use in day-to-day operations. Crematoria Twente expects to perform the first cremation using hydrogen before the end of 2026. The project will assess the gas change’s safety, emissions, reliability, and impact on operations. Partners on the project include cremation furnace maker Facultatieve Technologies, industrial energy system designer Mateq Processes, [...]

H2-View News: Chile backs green hydrogen refuelling and chemicals projects with $10m

Transport and logistics firm Maritima Valparasio (MarVal) and chemicals maker Fosfoquim were each awarded $5m under Corfo’s call for proposals for its Industrial Rings to Promote Demand for Green Hydrogen and its Derivatives scheme. The contributions cover more than 50% of both projects’ costs and must be “executed” within six years. Chile’s economy, development, tourism, and energy minister Álvaro García, said the projects would allow the country to generate “real demand” for green hydrogen while strengthening the region’s competitiveness. “Domestic demand for green hydrogen is an essential first step for the development of this industry and thus to take advantage [...]

H2-View News: India and Germany team up to advance hydrogen-ready gas infrastructure

India’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) inked a memorandum of understanding to advance the hydrogen readiness of natural gas infrastructure in India. The non-binding MOU focuses on regulatory and technical framework, rather than project-level investment. PNGRB says it is an entry point for progressing from hydrogen blending to 100% hydrogen applications. Under the agreement the two parties will collaborate on technical rules and testing principles, a hydrogen readiness testing scheme, network simulation tools, various practices and safety methodologies, and technical visits and knowledge exchange. The PNGRB is [...]

H2-View News: Japan stands at ‘inflection point’ for hydrogen: WEF

Given its structural reliance on imported fuels and exposure to energy security and decarbonisation imperatives, hydrogen provides an industrial and strategic pathway. But progress is not without friction, it finds. Infrastructure remains incomplete across production, transport and end-use sectors, green hydrogen and its derivatives still entail cost premiums and long-term offtakes, essential to investment clarity, have not materialised at the scale required. That’s despite policy direction and mobilised funds thanks to the country’s updated Basic Hydrogen Strategy and Hydrogen Society Promotion Act. It still requires “coordinated, system-wide progress” according to WEF. Encouragingly, it possesses the industrial depth, engineering capability and [...]

H2-View News: HIF Global extends e-fuel deal with Antarctic tourism operator

The agreement extends a deal first inked in October 2024 to fuel Antarctica21’s ten guest transport vessels with HIF’s synthetic gasoline for a second consecutive season. Antarctica21 operates the Zodiac boats to transport tourists from its cruise ship for on-ice expeditions off the coast of Chile. The e-gasoline is produced at HIF’s first plant in Chile, Haru Oni, which has been operating since 2022. The plant uses wind energy to power electrolysis for hydrogen production, which is synthesised with recycled carbon dioxide into e-fuels. HIF CEO, Víctor Turpaud, said the extended deal would allow the firm to show how regional [...]

H2-View News: H2Apex, East Energy eye small-scale green hydrogen JV as German mandates kick in

H2Apex and East Energy Group are forming a joint venture (JV) to develop four 5MW green hydrogen projects across Germany, following the government’s backing of usage mandates in mobility. Their Hanseatic H2 JV will develop standardised electrolyser plants to produce renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO)-compliant green hydrogen. Initially, four projects are planned in Northern and Eastern Germany, responding to what the developers describe as a “significant increase” in green hydrogen demand.
