H2-View News: Woodside delays blue ammonia beyond 2026 after Beaumont takeover
The handover follows completion of performance testing by OCI Global. The 1.1 million tonne-per-year facility had been due for handover once carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology was installed. However, Woodside now expects the CCS component to come online “after 2026.” Woodside said “construction issues” at a “third-party feedstock supply facility” caused the delay. The facility relies on hydrogen supplied by Linde, which is also expected to manage carbon capture. Linde has agreements with ExxonMobil to transport and store captured carbon dioxide. “In the face of current market disruptions, we remain focused on safely delivering ammonia supply to our customers,” [...]
H2-View News: UK backs brickworks to deploy ‘world first’ hydrogen-fired brick kiln
The undisclosed funds from the UK government’s Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) will go towards a £6m ($8m) conversion of the existing gas-fired kiln to run on hydrogen. Wienerberger expects to begin 100% hydrogen-fuelled operation by late 2028. The project will involve retrofitting two kiln tunnels at Denton brickworks in Greater Manchester by replacing 224 natural gas-powered burners with hydrogen-capable systems, installing new hydrogen infrastructure, and upgrading electrical systems. Wienerberger says the switch could reduce carbon dioxide emissions at the facility by over 11,600 tonnes-per-year. The company says it will source green hydrogen from Carlton Power’s UK government-subsidised project in [...]
H2-View News: Amogy eyes Asia’s digital sector for ammonia-to-hydrogen technology
The pair could pilot Amogy’s proprietary ammonia cracking technology to power data centres and semiconductor facilities at Hoku’s projects across the continent. Amogy’s technology uses catalysts to crack ammonia into hydrogen, which can be fed into fuel cells or engines for power generation. Under a fresh memorandum of understanding (MOU) Hoku and its energy-focused subsidiary will assess the suitability of trialling the systems at its projects, which include sites in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. Amogy, which has previously been particularly active with its maritime sector applications, secured $79m in venture finance funding in 2025. $23m of this was earmarked for [...]
H2-View News: Voestalpine advances steelmaking plant with hydrogen compression systems
Hydrogen from a 6MW PEM electrolyser at the plant, named H2Future, will be processed by the new compressor units for storage and subsequent use, replacing fossil fuels in direct reduced iron (DRI) processes. The new systems from Spanish technology firm Hiperbaric can compress hydrogen up to 500 bar and will come alongside a purification plant and five hydrogen storage tanks with a total capacity of one tonne. This comes as part of a pre-announced expansion of the Linz facility in collaboration with Austrian energy firm Verbund. The expansion, which has seen €16.4m ($19m) in investment from Voestalpine and Verbund, is [...]
H2-View News: Italian industrial gas firm to add green hydrogen production into operations
IGAT, a subsidiary of Italian chemical group SIAD, selected IMI to supply a 2MW PEM electrolyser that will be integrated alongside its existing operations in Pignataro Maggiore to decarbonise its footprint. The company currently operates an air separation plant producing nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. IGAT plans to use “a portion” of the hydrogen internally, which it said will improve energy autonomy and help manage operating costs. The use of the remaining volumes remains undisclosed. The firm has not revealed when it expects to bring the electrolyser online. The project is being funded by Italy’s Hydrogen Valley programme, which aims to [...]
H2-View News: Sungrow to supply 80MW of electrolysers to Kenya geothermal green fertiliser project
The electrolyser maker said 16 of its 1,000Nm3 per hour units – around 80MW in total –along with balance of plant systems, would be installed at the 480,000-tonne-per-year green fertiliser project in Olkaria. The project is being developed by Chinese industrial and power firm Kaishan and entered construction last November. Said to be Kenya’s “first” green ammonia project and its “largest” single industrial project, it will produce fertilisers for local agriculture. It will use 165MW baseload geothermal energy to produce green hydrogen, which will be processed into ammonia, urea, and calcium ammonium nitrate. This will support the project’s initial phase, [...]
H2-View News: Australian researchers move to expand green hydrogen test site
The pair has started front-end engineering (FEED) for the second phase of the Kwinana Energy Transformation Hub (KETH) which will produce gaseous and liquid hydrogen for research, testing, and potential commercial offtake. Alongside the FEED study, Pacific Energy – an energy distributor owned by Queensland Investment Corporation – will supply two PEM electrolysers made by Nel to produce 130kg of hydrogen gas per day. The hydrogen process plant, which is due to begin construction by late 2026, will also include a 100kg per day hydrogen liquefier. KETH aims to support the development of hydrogen technologies through pilot operations. It is [...]
H2-View News: Siemens to support UK membrane-free electrolyser scale-up
Under a new memorandum of understanding (MOU), Siemens will contribute to the manufacturing and development of CPH2’s MFE technology. Details of the company’s exact involvement remain unclear. However, CPH2 said its support will focus on product and process development, customer introductions, and go-to-market strategies. Siemens provides control technology and automation facilities for hydrogen production projects, as well as digital twin tools for design and building projects. In 2024, it provided support for developing HiiROC’s thermal plasma methane-splitting technology. CPH2 said it hopes to finalise the MOU into a legally binding partnership agreement. Having completed its first site acceptance test of [...]
H2-View News: EU-Australia trade deal removes tariffs on hydrogen and critical minerals
Eight years in the making, the deal was made during European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to Australia, where she met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. It will permanently remove all tariffs on most Australian energy and resource exports to the EU, including hydrogen and its carriers, which could have faced up to 5.5% import fees. “The Australia-European Free Trade Agreement will lower trade and investment barriers,” Albanese said. It will also mean Australian organisations can access the EU funding programme Horizon Europe. While still in its early phases, Australia has increasingly positioned itself as a future supplier [...]
