Under a term sheet agreement, the Swiss-Swedish multinational technology company will engineer and supply automation and electrification solutions for the vessel. Specifically, ABB will provide the systems that generate, distribute, and manage electrical power on the vessel, including its prefabricated eHouse housing switchgear, transformers, and control panels. The German OEM will carry out a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for the project in Joensuu, Finland, which could see its pressurised alkaline electrolysers installed. The electrolysis plant would supply hydrogen for e-methanol production, which could be used for shipping and aviation applications. Overall, the truck is expected to cover 12,000km per year. The US Department of Energy (DOE) is planning to cancel grants for all five of the remaining federally backed hydrogen hubs, according to various reports. Politico reports a list circulating among Capitol Hill staff marks over 600 clean energy grants for more than $20bn as “terminate,” adding to the more than 321 awards cancelled earlier this month. These would include the remaining five clean regional hydrogen hubs funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, originally intended to bolster hydrogen production and use across the US. The European Commission is proposing to almost halve tariff-free steel import quotas and introduce a 50% duty for excess shipments to preserve its domestic steelmaking. Ineos has warned that progress towards low-carbon production could come at the expense of British jobs without urgent government action on energy prices and trade protection. The company said that high UK energy costs have left its plant uncompetitive compared with countries benefiting from cheaper industrial power and gas.
