H2-View News: ABB to power SwitcH2’s floating green ammonia production vessel

Under a term sheet agreement, the Swiss-Swedish multinational technology company will engineer and supply automation and electrification solutions for the vessel. Specifically, ABB will provide the systems that generate, distribute, and manage electrical power on the vessel, including its prefabricated eHouse housing switchgear, transformers, and control panels. The company will also supply its ABB Ability System 800xA Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) to automate and monitor key processes, from electrolysis and ammonia synthesis to storage. “By integrating ABB’s advanced electrification and automation systems, we are demonstrating how technology-driven partnerships can accelerate innovation, shaping the future of energy at sea,” [...]

H2-View News: Sunfire awarded FEED contract for P2X’s 40MW hydrogen-based methanol plant

The German OEM will carry out a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for the project in Joensuu, Finland, which could see its pressurised alkaline electrolysers installed. The electrolysis plant would supply hydrogen for e-methanol production, which could be used for shipping and aviation applications. It follows the launch of P2X Solutions’ first plant – a 20MW e-methane project in Harjavalta – which is equipped with Sunfire’s technology. P2X Solutions CEO Herkko Plit, said the FEED contract was an “important milestone” towards taking final investment decision (FID) on the Joensuu plant, which would triple the company’s green hydrogen production. The project [...]

H2-View News: Bosch deploys hydrogen fuel cell truck in German logistics operations

Leased through Hylane, the hydrogen-powered truck will be used to transport products between Schäflein’s Nuremberg facility and a nearby service provider. Overall, the truck is expected to cover 12,000km per year. When Schäflein set out to cut emissions from its in-plant logistics operations, it selected Bosch’s fuel cell system as the centrepiece of its decarbonisation plans, according to the Commercial Plant Manager. “This deployment is an important building block that helps us reduce our emissions in logistics,” explained Alexander Weichsel. “The fact that several thousand trucks with Bosch fuel-cell systems are already on the road worldwide shows that the concept [...]

H2-View News: US DOE set to cancel all remaining hydrogen hub grants: reports

The US Department of Energy (DOE) is planning to cancel grants for all five of the remaining federally backed hydrogen hubs, according to various reports. Politico reports a list circulating among Capitol Hill staff marks over 600 clean energy grants for more than $20bn as “terminate,” adding to the more than 321 awards cancelled earlier this month. These would include the remaining five clean regional hydrogen hubs funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, originally intended to bolster hydrogen production and use across the US. H2-View News: Stiesdal Hydrogen names KK Wind Solutions as key partner for hydrogen plants

The company has already supplied power supply units (PSUs) to Steisdal to manage the electrical power from renewable sources, and complete control systems to regulate the operation of alkaline electrolyser modules. Under a new framework agreement, KK Wind Solutions will cover the repeat delivery of PSUs, electrolyser control systems, integrated cooling systems, and integration in scalable plant design. Each Stiesdal hydrogen plant begins at around 12.4MW, using its standardised HydroGen 3.1MW electrolyser modules. This allows for modular expansion across its plants. The two companies have worked together since 2021 and have even developed and deployed a prototype power conversion and [...]

H2-View News: Brussels looks to curb steel imports amid slow hydrogen shift

The European Commission is proposing to almost halve tariff-free steel import quotas and introduce a 50% duty for excess shipments to preserve its domestic steelmaking. Under the plans announced on Tuesday (7 October), all imports from countries outside of the European Economic Area will be covered, with importers set to disclose where the steel was melted and poured. H2-View News: Utility Global and MEW to develop dairy biogas-to-hydrogen plant in California

Under the agreement, MEW will develop, build, and operate the anaerobic digesters and biogas treatment systems, while Utility will provide and operate the hydrogen production system – specifically its H2Gen technology. The US-based clean technology firm’s H2Gen process produces hydrogen from water without electricity, using the chemical energy in industrial off-gases or biogas to drive the reaction and yielding high-purity CO2 suitable for capture or utilisation. Located at a dairy farm complex in California, the plant is planned to produce up to three tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen, primarily intended for heavy-duty transport applications in the state. The project is in [...]

H2-View News: INEOS cuts 20% of workforce at Hull plant months after £30m hydrogen conversion

Ineos has warned that progress towards low-carbon production could come at the expense of British jobs without urgent government action on energy prices and trade protection. The company said that high UK energy costs have left its plant uncompetitive compared with countries benefiting from cheaper industrial power and gas. Meanwhile, “dumped” Chinese imports have flooded the market with ultra-cheap, coal-based acetyl products, such as acetic acid, the firm’s statement said. These high-emission imports, which face tariffs in the US but not the UK or EU, have reportedly undercut European producers, forcing cost-cutting measures and job losses. Ineos warned, “Unless firm [...]

H2-View News: Qair secures €55m to deliver one of France’s largest green hydrogen projects

Provided by Crédit Agricole and the state-backed investment bank Bpifrance, the financing will support the construction of the facility in Port-La Nouvelle, Occitanie. Additional indirect support will likely come through EU funding for the wider hydrogen corridor network in the region. The initiative is expected to power a regional hydrogen mobility network, including the Narbonne and Béziers stations currently being constructed. In total, five refuelling stations across the Occitanie region will be fuelled by Hyd’Occ. The project’s first phase is scheduled to deliver 2,700 tonnes of hydrogen per year, before it doubles to 20MW and 5,400 tonnes in its second [...]
