H2-View News: Chinese OEM Hygreen launches Saudi JV to localise electrolyser manufacturing

The new Middle East Electrolysers Company, formed with Green Electrode Consortium of Industry (GECI), will look to meet growing demand in the Middle East and North Africa region. The JV will set up a research and development centre, with its headquarters due to be located in the Kingdom’s eastern province. GECI is a Saudi industrial consortium supported by the Ministry of Energy and engaged in the localisation of hydrogen-related technologies. It has already formed a JV with Spain’s Jolt Solutions to establish an electrode plant at the King Salman Energy Park. GECI CEO Abdulrahman Al-Wahtani said it would be working [...]

H2-View News: Hydrogen costs too project-specific for universal price targets: Wood Mac event

Setting a target per-kilo price for producing hydrogen is not that useful, since every hydrogen project has its own dynamics and economics. The price question was posed and tackled during a panel on hydrogen project risks at analyst group Wood Mackenzie’s Hydrogen Conference 2025 in London. Christian Stuckmann, Vice-President of Business Development in Hydrogen at energy company Uniper, said the company’s projects in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands had no top-level target price attached for good reasons. H2-View News: Air Liquide commissions industrial-scale ammonia cracker at Belgian port

Located at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, ammonia imported by ship can be cracked on-site to produce hydrogen for industry, mobility, or pipeline injection. Air Liquide’s Armelle Levieux called the cracking plant a “world first” for low-carbon hydrogen supply chains. “By proving the viability of industrial-scale ammonia cracking, Air Liquide demonstrates its capacity to innovate and provide concrete solutions for its customers, and contribute to the Energy Transition,” Levieux added. The project received undisclosed financial support from the Flemish Government through the Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (VLAIO). With high energy density, liquid storage, and use of existing infrastructure, ammonia is appealing [...]

H2-View News: Scania begins hydrogen fuel cell truck trials with logistics firm Asko

The Swedish vehicle manufacturer has established a collaboration with Asko Norge to evaluate the technical performance, operational feasibility and commercial potential of hydrogen trucks. Asko Norge is one of Norway’s largest food wholesale and distribution companies, supplying groceries to retailers nationwide. Initial hydrogen truck tests with Asko have shown ranges of up to 1,000km. “Being part of Scania’s Pilot Partner initiative gives us a unique opportunity to test and influence the development of sustainable solutions that fit our operations,” explained Jørn Arvid Endresen, CEO of Asko Midt. Scania’s Pilot Partner programme is designed to test new technologies with a small [...]

H2-View News: Ohmium claims 50% iridium reduction in new PEM electrolyser

The firm said it came as a result of stripping iridium use by 50% in its second-generation Lotus system, reducing overall system capital investments. Iridium is used as a catalyst in PEM electrolysers due to its high conductivity and resistance to acidic environments. However, the metal fetches around $4,500 per troy ounce, with only around 7–9 tonnes produced per year as a byproduct of nickel and copper mining. “We have made significant strides in reducing iridium usage in our PEM electrolysers, exceeding the 2030 industry target of 10GW per tonne,” said Dr Chock Karuppaiah, Ohmium Chief Science and Technology Officer. [...]

H2-View News: JSW starts up major green hydrogen plant to supply Vijayanagar DRI facility

The major Indian conglomerate will produce green hydrogen, which will be used to power a nearby direct reduced iron (DRI) plant operated by JSW Steel. The pilot phase is expected to produce 3,800 tonnes of green hydrogen, with reports suggesting it could be the largest green hydrogen deployment for steelmaking anywhere in the world. The project has been backed through the government’s Production Linked Incentive Scheme, Tranche I of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Indian government is pushing to accelerate green hydrogen use in industrial sectors such as steel. Last year, it launched a Rs. 455 crore ($54m) auction [...]

H2-View News: Chinese OEMs sweep 240MW tender for Inner Mongolia green hydrogen project

Chinese state-owned oil and gas firm Sinopec has awarded tenders to three domestic electrolyser makers to supply technology for its planned 240MW green hydrogen project in Inner Mongolia. Longi, Sany, and Huadian Group will supply stacks to Zhongtian Hechuang Energy (ZHE) for its Uxin Banner Integrated Wind-Solar-Hydrogen Production Project, which aims to produce up to 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The project plans to supply existing coal-to-olefins and methanol production. This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.

H2-View News: UK gas storage hub bets on turquoise hydrogen as engineering studies begin

UK gas storage firm EnergyPathways said it had started design work with Australian methane pyrolysis firm Hazer Group and its EPC partner KBR for a plant that will produce hydrogen from natural gas, while generating solid carbon rather than carbon dioxide. The project could be built as part of EnergyPathways’ planned Marram Energy Storage Hub (MESH), which aims to store up to 50 billion cubic feet of natural gas and hydrogen 18km off the Lancashire coast. Under an agreement signed in July, Hazer’s plant could produce up to 20,000 tonnes of turquoise hydrogen per year from natural gas and unprocessed [...]

H2-View News: Clarke Energy delivers hydrogen-ready engines Statera’s 450MW UK peaking plant

The 450MW flexible generation gas engine plant, which is currently under construction, will help stabilise the UK electricity grid. It will also be co-located with a 300MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to provide instant response to grid fluctuations. While the plant will operate primarily on pipeline gas, it can run on a variety of fuel blends, including biomethane and hydrogen. The Jenbacher J624 gas engines can reportedly start up in under five minutes, meaning the facility can rapidly generate power when renewable output drops. The scalable design enables operation from 2.25MW up to the full 450MW capacity. Ben Wilson, [...]

H2-View News: Samsung E&A to engineer hydrogen and power systems for $8bn SAF plant

Located in St. James Parish, Louisiana, the $8bn plant is expected to produce 200 million gallons of hydrogen-based jet fuel per year. Samsung is scheduled to begin front-end engineering and design (FEED) before the end of 2025, and will collaborate with Black & Veatch, the contractor and overall system integrator for the project. DG Fuels plans to take a final investment decision (FID) on the facility by Q3 2026. Blue and green hydrogen, produced from natural gas with carbon capture and electrolysis, respectively, will supply a low-carbon hydrogen feedstock to support SAF production. The SAF will also draw on waste [...]
