H2-View News: California gas utilities seek to drop 5% hydrogen blending trial requirement
The petition challenges a 2022 decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that ordered utilities to develop demonstration projects for 5% hydrogen blending with natural gas before network-wide injection could proceed. However, Southern California Gas (SoCalGas), San Diego Gas & Electric, and Southwest Gas Corporation argue the safety case for low-level blends has been “advanced” since the CPUC order. They stressed the petition does not oppose demonstration requirements in the 5–20% blend range. “Since 2022, a significant body of new research, operational data, and real-world experience has emerged,” the utilities said, adding that utilities globally had already safely demonstrated [...]
H2-View News: Indian solar firm plans 300MW AEM electrolyser manufacturing under US license
Anion exchange membrane company Versogen said it would jointly develop and commercialise stack and electrolyser solutions for India’s green hydrogen market with InSolare, after the Indian firm won subsidies for electrolyser making. Under the deal, InSolare will license Versogen’s stack IP and know-how, while building up its own materials and design capabilities in India, with Versogen supplying its membrane technology and technical experience. While the pair have not disclosed the deal’s value, InSolare plans to set up 250–300MW of manufacturing capacity, which could scale up to 1GW. The company has been selected for Indian government subsidies covering 10MW of annual [...]
H2-View News: Chile pivots green hydrogen targets toward consumption ahead of new government
Ahead of the nation’s next government taking office on 11 March, the current administration intends to lower production targets, revise projected costs, and prioritise local capabilities. Energy minister Álvaro García said the administration wanted to “bequeath” the next government with a strategy that “maintains the conviction to take advantage” of green hydrogen, but that was grounded in its “new scenario” where national demand needs more support. The draft strategy discards the ambitious 25GW of electrolysis by 2030 target, and replaces it with domestic consumption goals of 100,000–200,000 tonnes per year. It also targets export volumes of between 300,000 and 700,000 [...]
H2-View News: MB Energy acquires fourth European hydrogen refuelling station
Located near the A7 motorway within the Neumünster logistics hub, the station was inaugurated by hydrogen refuelling developer Hypion in November 2023 to support heavy-duty vehicle deployments. According to Hypion, the station was the first of its size to comply with the EU’s Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates hydrogen refuelling stations every 200km along core roads and in every urban node by 2030. While the acquisition’s value remains undisclosed, the station becomes MB Energy’s fourth operational hydrogen refuelling site. It will be integrated into the Tankpool24 network, which includes over 2,000 stations – covering diesel, LNG, and hydrogen [...]
H2-View News: UK SAF start-up begins using green hydrogen in pilot plant
The hydrogen was produced by Protium’s 40kg per day Pioneer 1 facility in South Wales, and has begun replacing the volumes of grey hydrogen used by Oxccu’s OX1 facility at London Oxford Airport. Commissioned in 2024, the OX1 plant is testing the start-up’s SAF production technology, slated to simplify the traditional multi-stage SAF production pathway, which the firm claims will reduce complexity, losses, and carbon intensity. The plant currently has capacity to produce 1.2 litres of fuel per day. The process can convert either separate streams of hydrogen and biogenic carbon dioxide or hydrogen-rich syngas into SAF using a specialist [...]
H2-View News: Enagás opens La Rioja consultation on Spain’s hydrogen backbone network
The Conceptual Public Participation Plan (PCPP) will run until March 27 through information points in each of the region’s 39 municipalities to gather opinions and views on the project. The PCPP will ultimately produce a final report incorporating the social and environmental solutions raised. Enagás also plans to hold eight one-day participatory seminars, educating the public on the backbone network. The consultation comes after a similar informational initiative launched last year in the Extremadura region. Enagás is leading the development of four key infrastructure projects across the country, including the hydrogen backbone, linking the Iberian Peninsula to Central Europe. It [...]
H2-View News: Hydrogen stuck in pilot phase as costs rise and demand lags, says ING
Hydrogen’s push toward commercial scale has stalled, with rising costs and weak offtake keeping the sector stuck in the pilot phase, according to ING. In its 2026 outlook, ING argues that clean hydrogen will require a “multi-stage process” unfolding over several decades to become a mainstream commodity. Despite industry advocates highlighting commercial traction, the bank said, “It has largely reverted to the pilot phase, especially for green hydrogen.” This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in if you are subscribed or subscribe today.
H2-View News: ARENA backs studies for 26GW green hydrogen, iron, ammonia project in the Pilbara
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) funds will be used for technical, economic, and regulatory progress on ICE’s Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), which aims to combine 26GW of renewables to produce 1.6 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The studies funded by ARENA will focus on the project’s green hydrogen production at Boodarie near Port Hedland and supply to industry, as well as environmental and social considerations. It gives a new boost to the development after oil and gas major BP pulled out of the scheme amid its reset back toward fossil fuels. CEO of the AREH project [...]
H2-View News: Italy transposes RED III with full green hydrogen mandates for industry and transport
EU-set green hydrogen mandates for transport and industry are set to come into force in Italy on Wednesday (4 February), after the country transposed the rules into national law. The Legislative Decree 5/2026 will enter into force and implement the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) to accelerate and simplify renewable energy installations across Italy. H2-View News: Exxon pulled into antitrust fight over blue ammonia access to CO2 pipeline
ExxonMobil and its Denbury carbon capture unit are facing an expanded antitrust and unfair competition lawsuit in Texas, after a blue ammonia developer alleged the companies leveraged control over a carbon dioxide pipeline to cut off a rival project. The suit, filed by start-up Clean Hydrogen Works, has added ExxonMobil as a defendant, alleging that after Exxon acquired CO2-enhanced oil recovery firm Denbury, the oil and gas major forced Denbury to break existing agreements with it.
