H2-View News: Obayashi completes first green hydrogen export from New Zealand to Fiji

The green hydrogen was produced at Halcyon Power’s 1.25MW project in Taupo, New Zealand which uses electricity generated by the nearby Mokai geothermal power plant. An unspecified amount of hydrogen was then transported from the Port of Auckland to Lautoka Port in gas cylinders. It took about a week to transport the green hydrogen before it was utilised for a DF generator installed at Fiji Gas LPG Lautoka Terminal. A press statement released by Obayashi said the generator “successfully supplied electricity by adjusting the hydrogen flow rate to align with the facility’s electricity demand.” H2 View understands that this marked [...]

H2-View News: Nel eyes nuclear hydrogen with alkaline electrolysers under KHNP MOU

Nel announced on LinkedIn that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the South Korean power utility to collaborate on clean hydrogen production technology. Since 2022, KHNP has been researching pink hydrogen – electrolytic production powered by nuclear electricity – and is currently carrying out a demonstration project. Details on the deal remain slim. However, with the pair intending to “expand into global clean hydrogen markets,” it could be a move from Nel to secure the future for its alkaline systems. Earlier this month the company announced it would halt production of its alkaline electrolysers at its flagship [...]

H2-View News: Quest One begins installing electrolyser demonstrator at MAN Energy Solutions’ performance centre

The 10MW electrolyser will generate data in test operation conditions to enable “comprehensive optimisation” of the plant operations, as well as the assembly and service concept of the electrolyser. Additionally, potential customers and project developers will be able to visit the demonstration plant from mid-2025, to give them valuable insights into the construction phases, dimensions, inner workings and infrastructure required. Throughout the course of 2025, the plant will be assembled ahead of first test operations in 2026. Last December, the two companies installed the freshwater treatment for the plant. Furthermore, the development has been funded as part of the PEP.IN [...]

H2-View News: EU-ready: Hygenco’s Indian green ammonia pre-certified under RFNBO rules

The renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) pre-certification under the CertifHy scheme applies to Hygenco’s planned 1.1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) green ammonia plant at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park in Odisha. Under the EU’s RFNBO rules, for green hydrogen to be classed as ‘renewable’, both domestic European producers and prospective overseas exports must comply with criteria such as additionality, hourly matching and geographical correlation. Read more: The impact of Europe’s renewable hydrogen complexity In December, Bureau Veritas’ CertiHy scheme was officially recognised by the European Commission to issue RFNBO certification. Amit Ghosh, Senior Vice-President at Bureau [...]

H2-View News: Luxcara and GreenH take FID on 20MW Norwegian green hydrogen plant

The Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, through its state-owned enterprise Enova, granted NOK 129m ($11.4m) in funding support, which enabled the two companies to make the FID. The Bodø Hydrogen Project, located at Langstranda, will have a 20MW electrolyser capacity in phase one and an annual production of up to 3,100 tonnes of green hydrogen. An additional 10MW could be introduced in phase two to increase production capacity to 4,800 tonnes per year. The hydrogen produced will fuel the Vestfjorden ferry connection, operated by Torghatten Nord, which is now scheduled to begin operations in 2026 following a one-year delay. [...]

H2-View News: European e-fuels could unlock hydrogen electrolyser deployments: Aurora

Focused on ammonia, methanol, e-kerosene and e-methane production in Sweden, Spain and Germany, the study says Europe’s regulatory landscape is set to accelerate the uptake and production of the e-fuels. And for green hydrogen producers that are facing increasing challenges due to high renewable energy costs and electrolyser CAPEX, e-fuels could support near-term installations. That’s despite hydrogen accounting for over 85% of the costs of e-fuels – which Aurora says highlights the importance of efficient power procurement strategies and integrated hydrogen and e-fuel production setups. “In the current challenging climate for hydrogen producers in Europe, selected e-fuel production can offer [...]

H2-View News: US government urged to see long-term hydrogen potential

Speaking on the Energy Gang podcast, he said, “Hydrogen is happening, we have cases to show what’s real. We’re actively developing the HyVelocity Hub on the Gulf Coast, integrating natural gas value chains and carbon capture, which customers around the world are demanding. We have to remember all this is long term and these solutions are going to play out over decades – and there will be many more administrations.” Knight highlighted three main sectors where hydrogen beats the alternatives. “Firstly, heavy industry for the high heat applications, which are typically using natural gas and refining, and other high heat [...]
