H2-View News: Fortescue’s dual-fuelled ammonia-powered vessel arrives in UK for inspections
Fortescue Green Pioneer will undergo Port State Control inspections by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to ensure full compliance with UK regulatory requirements before it continues to London’s West India Dock for demonstrations. Thorough safety and operational checks will be undertaken before the vessel continues to London. MCA Director, Lars Lippuner, praised the collaboration with Fortescue and welcomed the opportunity to showcase the vessel. The Singapore-flagged vessel is powered by a four-stroke engine, two of which can be fuelled by ammonia and diesel, reportedly a world’s first for the technology. “Through our UK SHORE programme, we are committed [...]
H2-View News: Bosch halts expansion plans for fuel cell production line at its US factory: reports
In an online statement, Bosch said the $200m expansion was delayed in mid-2024, after the hydrogen fuel cell mobility market experienced “significant changes over the past year.” Bosch added that while hydrogen “continues to be growth area… and a key technology for the path to an electrified future,” the company plans to “re-evaluate the investment for local fuel cell manufacturing when region market demand increases.” The expansion plans for the Anderson County facility were first announced in 2022, with production scheduled to ramp up through 2026, bringing an estimated 350 new jobs to the area. Bosch stated it had already begun construction on the extra 147,000 square [...]

H2-View News: Metacon to manufacture Chinese-designed hydrogen electrolyser stacks in Sweden
Under the revised agreement, Metacon will produce these stacks in its planned gigafactory. Initially, the Swedish firm secured licensing to build and sell alkaline electrolyser systems using PERIC’s stacks, but this extension allows for in-house production. Read more: Metacon and PERIC advance collaborations with EU electrolysis plant production The license agreement has been extended from five to eight years from the start of production and represents the first partnership of this type both inside and outside of China initiated by PERIC. In China, PERIC expects to reach about 6.5GW of its own production capacity this year. They’ve previously launched pressurised [...]
H2-View News: EU and India set up waste-to-hydrogen working group
The estimated budget, which will also target electric battery recycling and marine plastic litter, will be about €60m from the Horizon Europe programme and matching Indian contributions. Source: European Commission With waste-to-hydrogen, the focus will be on developing technologies with greater efficiency to produce hydrogen from biogenic wastes. Both parties will also explore how to enhance collaboration with hydrogen-related safety standards. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe and India are both looking to diversify critical value chains. “From our side this is for example the case on batteries or pharma, semiconductors, clean hydrogen or defence,” she said, [...]
H2-View News: Andritz orders HydrogenPro electrolyser for HyTechHafen Rostock project
Andritz will provide the green hydrogen plant on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, using the pressurised alkaline technology for electrolysis. If the final customer makes an investment decision by mid-2025, Andritz anticipates receiving the notice to proceed with the plant’s supply. The 100MW plant was ordered by Rostock EnergyPort cooperation (REPCO), a joint venture between RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien, RheinEnergie, and Rostock Port. Overall, the project will include the electrolyser, offsites and utilities, hydrogen purification and compression systems, storage facilities and a hydrogen filling station, with commissioning scheduled for 2027. Once operational, the produced hydrogen will [...]
H2-View News: HRS to install four-tonne-per-day hydrogen station for unnamed European customer
Under the agreement, which the company says is a “first in Europe for an infrastructure of this scale,” HRS will manufacture and install a six-pump station capable of dispensing four tonnes per day, or 160kg of hydrogen per hour. The station will be installed in a “major European urban centre” in the first half of 2026. However, the French infrastructure provider has not revealed who the customer is or where the station will be deployed. The company secured the contract through a competitive bidding process, attributing its selection to its “proven expertise and ability to design innovative, high-performance solutions.” Hassen [...]
H2-View News: EU’s investment bank to back HDF Energy’s hydrogen storage project in Barbados
Alongside the International Finance Corporation (IFC), IDB Invest and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the European Investment Bank (EIB) is offering the Renewstable Barbados (RSB) project a combination of guarantees and investment grants. Project RSB is expected to “smoothly increase” the existing renewable energy penetration on the national grid by almost 50%, providing stable and reliable electricity continuously by integrating solar power generation with on-site green hydrogen storage. Located at Harrow Plantation in St. Philip, Southeast Barbados, HDF’s power plant will reportedly replace 13MW of imported fossil-fuel generation. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen underscored the significance of the [...]
H2-View News: Mix of challenges makes hydrogen unsuitable for home heating says IEEFA analyst
In the latest episode on 1895, Mattei talks about hydrogen and its uses across sectors, including home heating, in terms of market competitiveness, supply and safety – and found it invariably falls short on many key metrics. “Firstly, it’s really not a carbon solution. It takes about three times as much hydrogen to produce the energy of natural gas. So that becomes a volume, systems management and compression issue. You really have to use a lot of hydrogen if you’re trying to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and hydrogen from natural gas is not clean,” she said. “The notion that [...]
H2-View News: Everfuel delivers first hydrogen from HySnergy to Crossbridge Energy
The facility has been developed adjacent to Crossbridge’s Fredericia refinery, and the hydrogen will be used to decarbonise its operations. The Crossbridge Energy refinery refines crude oil into liquid fuels for shipping, transportation, and aviation, and also supplies heat for district heating. “With hydrogen in the pipeline from HySynergy to Crossbridge Energy, we mark the beginning of what could become a new era,” claimed Finn Schousboe, CEO of Crossbridge Energy “The new era, however, requires that legislation recognises that the use of green hydrogen instead of traditional hydrogen contributes to meeting the current displacement requirements for Danish fuels.” Everfuel’s Founder and [...]
