H2-View News: Hygen Energy seeks funding to develop UK hydrogen valley

Building on the UK government-backed joint venture between Hygen and N-Gen – the Bradford hydrogen electrolyser project – Hygen plans to install five hydrogen refuelling stations, 60 mobile hydrogen fuelling units, and 15 hydrogen tube trailers. Hydrogen infrastructure across Leeds, Bradford and Hull is expected to underpin the deployment of 450 hydrogen-powered assets, including coaches, trucks, mobile generators, construction machinery, materials handling equipment, and light commercial vehicles, to stimulate early mobility demand. To realise these plans, Hygen is seeking grant funding through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s Hydrogen Valleys competition to unlock £250m ($333.5m) in capital investment. The ‘Lighter than Aire [...]

H2-View News: ArcelorMittal explores hydrogen from steel off-gas at Brazilian plant

US start-up Utility Global announced that it is conducting early engineering work at ArcelorMittal’s Juiz de Fora facility to install its H2Gen system, which utilises blast-furnace off-gas to produce hydrogen from water. Utility is hoping to determine the technical and economic feasibility of installing the three-tonne-per-day hydrogen production system at the site in Minas Gerais. The H2Gen system uses an electrochemical process to convert steam and gas feedstocks into hydrogen and CO2. It is pitched as a modular, low-cost alternative to electrolysis and steam methane reforming, which does not rely on electrical or natural gas inputs. Utility says it could [...]

H2-View News: Enertrag acquires land for IPCEI-backed green hydrogen plant in Brandenburg

The project in Prenzlau, supported by the European Hy2Infra programme, is expected to produce 12,500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. The site includes a 130MW electricity connection. Hydrogen from the project is planned to be fed into a section of Germany’s hydrogen core network for transportation to industrial users. Enertrag says “several” trailer filling stations will also be built. It comes as part of the Hy2Infra IPCEI, which offered up to €6.9bn ($8.03bn) in funding for 33 hydrogen projects across seven EU member states. The project is among 3.2GW of electrolysis capacity backed by Hy2Infra, 1.5GW of which is [...]

H2-View News: India allocates $7.8m to four green hydrogen projects in innovation clusters

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) approved the $7.8m funding round under the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s central financial assistance (CFA) scheme, which is designed to accelerate green hydrogen deployment. The National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) will receive $2m for a project being developed in Pune, western India, while energy research organisation ANERT has been allocated $2.4m for its Kerala plans. Two further initiatives led by the Indian Institutes of Technology have been awarded $1.7m and $1.6m for projects in Bhubaneswar and Jodhpur, respectively. Located in HVICs, the produced hydrogen is expected to serve both existing industrial uses and [...]

H2-View News: Chart terminates $19bn merger to be acquired by Baker Hughes in $13.6bn deal

The US cryogenic equipment maker said it had axed the Flowserve merger after its board determined that Baker Hughes had made a “superior” offer. The deal values Chart’s equity at $210 a share – a 22% premium on its market capitalisation. “This all-cash transaction with Baker Hughes delivers immediate value to Chart shareholders,” said Chart President and CEO Jill Evanko. The transaction is expected to be completed by the middle of 2026. Flowserve is set to receive a $266m termination payment. Scott Rowe, Flowserve CEO said, “The decision not to pursue a revised offer for Chart demonstrates our commitment to [...]

H2-View News: Protium, Ulemco target hydrogen transport demand creation in southern UK

Under a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ulemco, the efforts will focus on demand creation in Wales and southern England, where Protium is already producing hydrogen. Despite its potential for decarbonising heavy-duty transport, hydrogen mobility faces persistent barriers, including sparse refuelling infrastructure, limited vehicle availability, and high fuel costs. The pair will explore opportunities for supplying hydrogen to local transport operators and depots, providing hydrogen combustion and fuel cell platforms for vehicles and machinery, and deploying demonstration projects. Protium is already operating a 25kg-per-day green hydrogen plant at the University of South Wales’ site in Port Talbot from an [...]

H2-View News: Clean energy projects drive 40% of Air Liquide’s investment backlog

Air Liquide has revealed that over half of its €4.6bn ($5.3bn) investment backlog is linked to hydrogen and the energy transition, with €2.3bn ($2.6bn) in new investments approved in the first half of 2025. Air Liquide Group CEO François Jackow described the investment backlog – over 40% of which is tied to energy transition projects – as a “new record.” Representing a 39% increase compared to H1 2024, the €2.3bn of investments include the development of large low-carbon hydrogen electrolysers in France and the Netherlands. This is a paid article, to read the article in full you can sign in [...]

H2-View News: Symbio seeks compensation after Stellantis axes hydrogen programme

Newly appointed CEO Jean-Baptiste Lucas said the automaker’s sudden exit from hydrogen fuel cell development came as a “shock” to Symbio’s 640 employees. The company had scaled up rapidly to meet anticipated demand, including opening a 50,000-unit-per-year gigafactory in Lyon, France. Stellantis became a one-third shareholder in Symbio in 2023 alongside Michelin and Forvia, aiming to support the rollout of hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) across Europe. That vision has now collapsed. Symbio’s other co-owners, Michelin and Forvia, say they were only officially informed of Stellantis’ withdrawal in May. Forvia posted a €269m ($311m) net loss in H1 2025, with [...]

H2-View News: German-Canadian €400m green hydrogen tender enters consultation phase

Under the programme, which is part of H2Global, each government will contribute up to €200m ($230m) to cover the cost gap between the price of green hydrogen production and what buyers in Germany are currently willing to pay. The hydrogen must be certified as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) under EU rules — a mandatory requirement to qualify for public support through H2Global. While the H2Global Foundation will administer the mechanism, its bespoke bilateral structure means the auction is restricted to Canadian producers and German buyers, and, unlike earlier tenders, Canada will co-fund the scheme, rather than Germany acting [...]
